“Longmire” debut shoots straight to top of A&E record books

With 4.1 million viewers watching its premiere Sunday night, A&E’s Longmire became cable’s top new scripted drama of the year, and the most watched original series in the network’s history.

Based on the popular book series by Craig Johnson, Longmire follows the exploits of Walt Longmire, a middle-aged sheriff solving crimes — and trying to find purpose in his life — in Wyoming’s sparsely populated Absaroka County. Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase and Cassidy Freeman costar.
