Night Shift Relives GH Legacy

Posted By RabbitEars

Joining the second season of General Hospital: Night Shift, which debuts July 22 on SoapNet, are old General Hospital characters (referred to by SoapNet as “legacy characters”) Jagger Cates and Robert Scorpio, played by original actors Antonio Sabato Jr. and Tristan Rogers, respectively.

Rogers played the Aussie super agent on GH throughout the 1980s, and reprised the role briefly in a few episodes during a 2006 storyline. His appearance in Night Shift brings him into contact with the character played by Kimberly McCullough — Robin Scorpio, Robert’s daughter. Robert checks into the hospital with failing health, and he and Robin must learn to deal with each other as grown adults.

Sabato played super-stud Jagger Cates in the early ’90s. Jagger also has connections with Robin, who dated his brother Stone. Jagger is also dealing with growing emotionally as the father of his 5-year-old son (named Stone). Watch our blog in the next week for an interview with Antonio Sabato Jr. about Night Shift!

In other casting news, Billy Dee Williams, Jason Thompson and Sonya Eddy are returning. New to the cast are Adam Grimes as Dr. Kyle Julian, Carrie Southworth as Dr. Claire Simpson, Ethan Rains as Dr. Leo Julian (taking over for his real-life brother Dominic, who was unavailable for this season) and Azita Ghanizada as Dr. Saira Batra.

The Two Coreys: Career Moves and Making Amends

Posted by Mike

It’s another week, and we’ve got two more episodes of The Two Coreys to dissect. “Career Moves” begins with Corey Haim trying to get his career back on track. Wait, hasn’t he been here before?

OK, that was a lame excuse to show a video most of us have already seen, but does it ever really get old? Anyway, Haim can’t get work without a publicist and he can’t get a publicist, he thinks, without an assistant — so he sets out to hire a personal assistant to make a few calls on his behalf. Based on his phone conversations with prospective applicants, he’s looking for a computer hacker. Yeah, this is totally going to work out well.

Coincidentally, Corey Feldman is looking for an assistant, too. He’s thinking of hiring an obsessed fan named Jake who looks like Pauly Shore. Thank God the Coreys are actors, because … well, let’s just say that their instincts when it comes to hiring people are not well-suited for a corporate environment.

Swingtown: Janet Meets Alice B. Toklas

By Elaine B
Funny how you post a recipe (or write it on a wall) and women start commenting on it. Possibly, it’s in our genes. Men hunt. Women gather. Men bring home large hunks of meat. Women start up the fire. That didn’t even change after women realized they could “bring home the bacon, and fry it up in a pan and …” well, you know the rest of the line. Women, for the most part, are still the organizers of nearly all social events except their own surprise parties (and a smart hubby will consult his wife’s closest girlfriend to help organize the guest list), and if guys are lucky, their wives will let them in what they are doing during the upcoming weekend.

In last night’s episode of Swingtown, Roger tries to back out of Janet’s weekend plans to head up to Door County with Bruce and Susan. He’s trying to distance himself from them after hearing from Bruce about that night of passion with their new neighbors. Roger says he has the flu – which, of course, is actually heart sickness that his worshipped-from-afar Susan would crawl between the sheets with a sleaze like Tom – and Janet bought it. Wild, Wild World of Animals (July 2008)

greatest american dogPosted by RabbitEars

This month’s premieres and new episodes that may be of interest to you animal lovers:

Greatest American Dog CBS, July 10. This new reality competition series pits 12 teams of dogs and owners from across the country against each other in challenges that test the dogs, and perhaps the people even more, as they must prove their ability to have their pet effectively trained. Like many other reality shows, these teams will also be living together. If you think things got pretty chaotic in The Real World households, try putting 12 pooches in the same living area. And like The Real World, the dogs all have their differences and unique personalities — some are “pageant dogs,” while others are home-trained. From there, you know the standard reality drill: Each week, one dog and owner will be eliminated (from competition, not literally), until the last remaining team gets to roll around in a $250,000 cash prize. Popular TV animal expert Jarod Miller hosts the proceedings, with dog pros Wendy Diamond, Allan Reznik and Victoria Stilwell (It’s Me or the Dog) serving as judges.

Wipeout: Apocalypse Now!

posted by Zhillbear

There are two things I realized Tuesday night as I watched the premiere of Wipeout, the show where contestants tackle obstacle courses that are, according to ABC’s website, “grueling and physically demanding but wildly hilarious”:

1. My husband will never tire of watching people get hurt. He loves any show whose title contains a phrase such as “funniest videos,” “outrageous videos” or “whacked-out videos.” When Wipeout started, he grabbed his plate from the dinner table and ate while standing in the middle of the family room, so he could get a better look at all the people getting hurt. If there were a show named People Getting Hurt, my husband would never miss an episode. If there were a network named People Getting Hurt, my husband would never sleep.

2. I’m more like my husband than I’d care to admit.

FSN Goes Back To "Baseball's Golden Age"

Posted by Cubicle QB

FSNFSN has been on a roll lately with its original programs, with Sport Science and Amazing Sports Stories, and now the announcement of Baseball’s Golden Age premiering July 6 at 8pm (local time). Baseball’s Golden Age uses recently discovered color home movies from the 1920s-1960s to tell the stories of some of the game’s biggest legends — Ruth, Cobb, Williams, Mays, Aaron — and their incomparable feats on the field. Each 30-minute episode contains remarkable rare shots and never-before-seen footage from films shot by fans, players’ families and the players themselves. Each episode includes interviews with baseball writers, broadcasters and former team employees reliving the bygone era of all-night train rides and five-cent hot dogs.

Nashville Star: Week Three Recap

Posted by Mike

Pop goes country this week on Nashville Star, which means one thing — backup dancers! Just what every self-respecting country singer needs. Speaking of country singers, two of them are asked to step to the front of the stage at the very start of the show. One of them is safe this week, the other is in the Bottom 2. Since the producers don’t even want to try and trick us, those two singers are Tommy Stanley and Gabe Garcia. Gabe ain’t Bottom 2 material, so he’ll be the first to perform this week, right after a group version of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” During the song, Tommy cements his Bottom 2 status by letting out a wince-inducing sour note.

The Two Coreys: Showdown and Couples Therapy

Posted by Mike

The last time we saw the Coreys, this happened:

As a result, as we head into the Season 2 premieres of A&E’s The Two Coreys (we get two episodes this week, “Showdown” and “Couples Therapy”), the Felddog and the Haimster haven’t seen each other in six months. Seriously, if Congress has time to investigate Roger Clemens and the steroids issue in baseball, surely it could have intervened to get the Coreys back together. Fortunately, we have reality TV to once again step in where government has failed us.

Swingtown: Longing, Shame and that Rosy Perfection recipe

By Elaine B

Can we return to a more innocent life after innocence is lost? Can we, as Quentin Crisp asserted, reclaim our virginity through rigorous practice of prudishness? Susan, still reeling from her discovery of lawyer Sylvia’s business card in her husband’s pocket, certainly tries. First, she has a surprised Bruce say prayers at Sunday breakfast. Then she hustles everyone to church to hopefully give Bruce a dose of good old religious guilt. They see Janet and family there, and Susan asks Janet to help her organize a housewarming party. Janet, in her element, hits the recipe books while Susan and Bruce head over to the Decker’s for a pool party. There Bruce confesses his own innocence to Trina, explaining that he has only been with two women in his life. She thinks he’s sweet.
