The Two Coreys: Lost Boy

Posted by Mike

After one Corey-less Sunday (unless you count last week’s reruns, which we don’t), we’re back with a recap of the fifth episode of the season. It begins with Corey Feldman and Susie looking back on last episode’s dinner with Corey Haim and looking ahead to the filming reshoots for Lost Boys: The Tribe — which, by the way, is scheduled to be released July 29 on DVD and Blu-Ray. Here’s the film’s trailer, for those who are interested.

A day before the shoot, the Coreys go back for another session of couples therapy with Dr. Nicki Monti. It’s a veritable love-fest and Dr. Monti calls them out on it. But nothing can stop the bromance from brewing — until Feldman seems to sense that Haim is wavering in his willingness to do the Lost Boys sequel. We see why Haim might be hesitating to reprise his role as Sam Emerson, as he rehearses in his home and his poor performance leads to the revelation of the season: Corey Haim actually refers to himself as “dog” when he’s alone. As in, “Breathe, dog, breathe, breathe, breathe.”

The problems continue when he arrives on the set, slurring his words and forgetting his lines. He practically falls asleep in the makeup chair, and maybe sleeping through the day would have been the best course of action. (Although, then he would have missed the arrival of Jamison Newlander, who played Alan Frog in the original Lost Boys film.) Predictably, rehearsal goes badly, and Haim retreats to his trailer — presumably to consume massive amounts of prescription medication, if the show’s editing is accurate. The producers reluctantly allow Haim to leave the set on his own, after imploring him not to drive. Somehow he gets home.

The next day, he arrives at Dr. Monti’s office, to find Corey and Susie waiting for him. Both Coreys give their accounts of what happened on the Lost Boys 2 set, and the consensus in the session is that Haim has been using drugs. Haim admits he took “an extra” prescription pill to calm himself down the day before. He also admits that he went against himself and his quest to get his career back on track. That leads to Feldman to break down and cry. We guess it’s better that he do that than sing — which he’ll apparently do in next week’s episode. For now, we’re left waiting to see what happens, but since Haim is listed in the IMDb credits for Lost Boys: The Tribe, we have a pretty good idea.
