“The Closer” Recap: Elysian Fields I Dread

Emmy® Winnger Tom Skerritt guest starred on The Closer

The term “Elysian Fields” has numerous meanings. In Greek mythology, the Elysian Fields in Elysium were the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. The Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris means the Avenue of the Elysian Fields. There’s an Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans as there is a city in Texas called Elysian Fields.

These are just a few Elysian Fields references I know. When I googled “Elysian Fields” I found about 10 or more.

It’s no wonder I felt a sense of dread after seeing the title and watching the opening … Brenda’s just waking and heading for the bedroom when she hears a noise from somewhere in the apartment. She grabs her gun and cautiously looks around the apartment. [Read more →]

The last couple of episodes of “The Closer” have definitely been worth watching and entertaining, but I haven’t been blogging about them.

I apologize for this but I’m sure you’ve been kept abreast of what’s been happening through tnt.tv (you can watch complete episodes at this site).

“Strike Three” starts out with the sound of a helicopter circling over a crime scene, a sound that’s unmistakable if you’ve ever been in a large metropolitan city with helicopter traffic.

The police helicopter first reports on a victim down and upon circling the scene again and in reply to dispatch not being able to reach the squad initially sent to the scene, reports on seeing both police officers down, out of their car, laying in the street. [Read more →]

AMC launches “Mad Men” avatar creator

mad-men-avatar

AMC is not content that you are aware of the upcoming Season 3 premiere of its hit series Mad Men on Aug. 16. First, it took over Banana Republic stores with ’60s fashion chic. Now, the network has partnered with illustrator Dyna Moe to launch the Mad Men Yourself avatar creator. This application allows fans to create and customize ’60s-style digital avatars that reflect the look of Mad Men’s characters (and listen to some light ’60s lounge pop while doing so), from smooth-talking Don Draper to sassy office manager Joan Holloway. Like the popular Simpsons movie and Japanese anime avatar creators, these can be downloaded and shared on various social networks, including Facebook, Twitter and iPhone.

Dyna Moe’s work first became familiar to Mad Men fans in 2008, when she began a project to draw a scene every week of the show. This “Mad Men Illustrated” Flickr set went viral and made the artist/filmmaker/comedian famous.

“The enthusiasm that AMC and [series creator] Matthew Weiner have shown for my illustrations is an honor and very exciting,” says Moe. “I’ve stayed up all night for weeks at a time drawing hundreds of different elements for the avatars — anything you could digitally stick on, near or behind your virtual Sterling Cooper employee. No detail is too small. I know Mad Men enthusiasts everywhere will go ga-ga for this new online activity.”

Along with the avatar creator, AMC will host a weekly caption contest at its website. Each Monday, the site will feature a brand-new Dyna Moe illustration, based on the latest Season 3 episode, for which visitors can submit a caption.

Film News: There will be a Dark Knight sequel!

The Dark KnightBy Elaine Bergstrom

Yes, it’s coming, and that news comes from Commissioner Gordon himself! Interviewed at Comic-Con, Gary Oldman let slip that filming on a sequel will begin next year, which means we’ll likely see the caped crusader sometime in 2011. “We start filming the next Batman next year, which means it won’t come out for another two years,” Oldman said, before adding, “but you didn’t hear that from me.” With the previous two films raking in over $1 billion, this news hardly comes a surprise.
