Ovation airs U.S. premiere of William and Kate documentary

Celebrating the most highly anticipated royal wedding in 30 years, Ovation is presenting a weeklong programming event called “The Royals,” which focuses on the cultural impact that the Windsors have had throughout the years.

Highlighting the week is the U.S. premiere of William and Kate: A Modern Royal Romance on Feb. 9 at 8:30pm ET/PT. The doc chronicles the relationship of young Prince William and his commoner girlfriend, Kate Middleton, from courtship to their very public engagement. It’s also a look at their backgrounds, their initial meetings and plans for the pending wedding.

Also premiering during “The Royals” programming event are three documentaries exploring the style and influence of the royal family’s most celebrated princess — Diana. Icons: Diana premieres Feb. 9 at 8pm ET/PT and documents Diana’s short and chaotic life as an icon of style and philanthropy. Princess Diana: Her Life in Jewels, premiering Feb. 12 at 9pm ET/PT, looks at the significance of Diana’s gems and some of the most elaborate jewelry pieces ever created. This is followed by Diana Everlasting, at 10pm ET/PT on Feb. 12, which examines the extraordinary way Diana lived her life, breaking with the ritual distance members of the royal family traditionally kept with the public and dedicating her time to helping others.

Another premiere for “The Royals” week is Royal Opulence, a documentary on the elegant and sometimes decadent lives of royal families from Britain to Monaco to Denmark. It airs Feb. 10 at 8pm ET, and is followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The King’s Speech at 8:30pm, and Bertie and Elizabeth at 9pm — a film about how King George VI met his true love Elizabeth, overcame his crippling stutter and made his speedy ascension to the throne.
