McBride, Bieber, Gaga, Poinsettia Bowl and “The X-Factor” highlight great night of entertainment

It might seem a little sacrilegious during the holidays to refer to a piece of technology as a savior, but the DVR can certainly be your best friend with so many great specials, movies and sporting events airing this time of year.

Our favorite dramas and sitcoms take a well-deserved break to make room for more seasonal fare, and tonight is a great example of the entertainment cup running over. So set that DVR to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun this evening.

The X-Factor (Fox, 8pmET):The final three contestants — Melani Amaro, Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik — perform one last time before a winner is crowned tomorrow night. Even show creator and judge Simon Cowell admits the show failed to meet expectations, but tonight should at least provide some excitement for those who have been following.

A Home for the Holidays with Martina McBride (8pm ET, CBS): Country music star Martina McBride headlines a special that also features Mary J. Blige, Gavin DeGraw and Justin Bieber.

The Santa Clause (8pmET, ABC Family): You can never go wrong with this 1994 classic if you are looking for a good Christmas film to watch with the family. Tim Allen is hilarious as the regular Joe who turns into Kris Kringle.

Poinsettia Bowl (ESPN, 8pm): Sponsored by the San Diego County Credit Union, this bowl game pits Louisiana Tech against Texas Christian. With both teams riding seven-game winning streaks, this has the potential to be high-scoring and very close game.

South Park marathon (8pm ET, Comedy Central): Nothing beats a good laugh when you are surrounded by family, and Comedy Central is serving them up in droves with a night full of hilarious episodes from creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

Toy Story (8:30pm ET, Disney): This animated treasure has no real holiday angle, which makes it a perfect diversion for those looking for a temporary escape from holiday music and shopping.

This Is Justin Bieber (9pmET, TLC): Justin Bieber has been anything but scarce lately with a new holiday album out, but this special offers a behind-the-scenes look at the young singer.

Gaga by Gautlier (9pmET, CW): Jean Paul Gaultier goes one-on-one with the unique but uber-talented performer in a interview in which no topics are off limits.

A Michael Buble Christmas (9pmET, NBC): The Peacock Network is showing an encore presentation of the Canadian crooner’s show, which also features the talents of Kellie Pickler, Oscar the Grouch, Ed Helms and — brace yourself — Justin Bieber.
