“Dance Moms: Miami”: first pics

Well, things certainly look happier and more cooperative. Maybe it’s the balmy air and sunshine. Or maybe it’s an illusion.

Lifetime has released the first pictures from its upcoming spinoff, Dance Moms: Miami, which will premiere April 3 at 10:30 ET following the 90-minute spring finale of the network’s runaway train wreck hit Dance Moms.

Based at the sultry south Florida city’s Stars Dance Studio, Dance Moms: Miami follows the triumphs and travails of the school’s owners, renowned contemporary dance teacher Victor Smalley (an instructor on Season 6 of So You Think You Can Dance) and choreographer Angel Armas as they train a diverse group of talented dancers intent on becoming stars — and sidestep the drama generated by the kids’ intensely competitive moms.

Here’s Angel (left) and Victor:

Here’s Victor and Angel with Victor’s mother, Stars Dance Studio manager, Mayra Smalley:

Here’s studio stars Lucas, Sammy, Jessica, Hannah and Kimberly looking victorious and well-adjusted:

But where are the Miami moms? The waiting is the hardest part.

• UPDATE: Meet the Moms of Dance Moms: Miami!

What do you think, fellow Dance Moms faithful? Are you burning up with anticipation for Miami (me! me!) or should the original stand alone?

  1. No, Mia Diaz will not be on the featured cast of Dance Moms Miami. She may be shown around the studio and there may be clips of her, however she is not in the cast.

  2. if they are gonna put a new studio they should put the studio i goto it is also in miami and it is amazing

  3. Miami is, indeed, a separate show from the Pittsburgh “Dance Moms” — though it remains to be seen if the Miami girls cross paths with the Pitt crew. I kinda hope so. “Dance Moms: Miami Sends Abby An Angel. To The Victor Goes the Spoils?” Or something like that.

And straight from Dance Mom Christi Lukasiak: re a third season of “Dance Moms”: “time will tell.”

In the meantime, has anyone noticed that we can now own our own Dance Moms swag?

I’m so saving my pennies …

  4. In that last photo, isn’t it a little creepy that four of ther girls look like identical quadruplets? I will be interested in seeing if this one is entertaining.

  5. Does anyone know if they gonna have Dance moms (Abby Lee Miller) and this new dance moms Miami as 2 separate shows?? Or are they getting rid of abby and the kids??? I hope not!! I feel like I know all of the ALDC girls and I don’t want them to go off air!! I do wanna see this show though I don’t wanna loose the dancers I’ve grown to know and love!!! So please respond I really wanna know!

  6. Hey Taylor the original Dance Moms will continue to be produced, along side Dance Moms Miami. They will run a season of Dance Moms then a season of Dance Moms Miami not long after the finale for what I understand. I PROMISE they are running both shows tho.

  7. please tell me the original dance moms will still be on i absolutely love that show. but i will for sure check this one out

  8. The Miami franchise is going to be produced by Collins Ave, the same folks who do Pittsburgh, so I think we can look forward to drama either way. 🙂 And the Pittsburgh crew is pulling eye-popping ratings, so I doubt they’re going anywhere. They better not be! I’ll lead the riot.

  9. As long as there will be a season 3 of dance moms i guess ill watch this one it looks like it will be good but looks can be decieving!!!!!!!!

  10. NOOOOOOO! I love the Pittsburgh girls. As long as they keep both running, I’ll be happy.

  11. YAY!!! Go Lucas!! I saw stars last year at the American dance awards. Always impressed with their dancers and FIERCE attitude!!:) YOU ROCK GUYS!:)
