Though the series could potentially cover any era, the six parts of Season 1 of History Exposed at least are devoted to uncovering the conspiracies and espionage that made up the battle behind the lines during World War II. History Exposed will look at everything from double agents and code-breaking machines to spy planes, guerilla tactics and more in the following episodes:
“Secret Weapons of the Third Reich” (Sept. 13 at 8pm ET/PT) German engineering has long been respected and a source of pride in that country, and during the Second World War, the Allies knew that it was vital to stay on top of what their enemies had on their drawing boards. Rockets, jets, missiles — weapons systems’ top-secret plans were much-sought-after quarry by spies on both sides, and if the Nazis had been able to deploy their own properly, the outcome of the war might have been very different.
“D-Day Deceptions” (Sept. 13 at 9pm ET/PT) Misinformation played a key role in the espionage strategies of World War II. This episode of History Exposed looks at the web of lies that caused German army divisions across the continent to be tied up for weeks, allowing Allied forces to assemble for the invasion of Europe.
“Battle of the Atlantic” (Sept. 20 at 8pm ET/PT) In this episode of History Exposed, as Germany’s lethal U-boat fleet sniped the supply ships that were Britain’s lifeline during the war, naval intelligence, code breaking and code stealing became imperatives in winning the fight in the Atlantic.
“The Battle of Britain” (Sept. 20 at 9pm ET/PT) The German Blitzkrieg across Europe was so successful, it had the English fighting the Axis powers virtually alone by June 1940, totally outnumbered. But with a secret weapon years in the making and with only about 500 RAF pilots to fight the Battle of Britain, more than 10,000 special men and women stepped up to fight the battle of Ultra to help enable the Allies’ victory.
“Tools of Deception” (Sept. 27 at 8pm ET/PT) Like a boxer might feint with his left to get in a right hook, the tools of deception in wartime can be as lethal as any. Whether camouflage, propaganda or other fakery, both sides employed insidiously clever means to lead the enemy astray, as this episode reveals.
“Nazi Gold” (Sept. 27 at 9pm ET/PT) Hitler may have wanted to share his vision of the future with the entire world, but he and his forces plundered Europe in the attempt, for personal as well as military gain. Priceless art, personal assets, national treasures and gold formed much of the bounty of the biggest heist in all of history, much of which would be lost in the fog of war.
