MTV helps to “Restore the Shore” with Hurricane Sandy relief special

Seaside Heights, New Jersey, has helped MTV to ratings success as one of the locations for its hit series Jersey Shore, and now the network — and the stars of that show — will be giving back to the area that is at the heart of the Jersey Shore, and which was recently devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

MTV is airing Restore the Shore Nov. 15 at 11pm ET. The live event (tape-delayed PT) is a one-hour fundraising special to help Seaside get back on its feet. Restore the Shore will feature live performances from Gym Class Heroes (with special guest Oh Land) performing the comeback anthem “The Fighter,” as well as American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips performing his hit “Home.”

Stars contributing messages of support who will be featured on-air in Restore the Shore include One Direction, Alicia Keys, Mac Miller, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Pharrell, P!nk, Demi Lovato, Kim Kardashian, Ne-Yo, Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, No Doubt, fun., Carly Rae Jepsen, Swizz Beats, Jonas Brothers, Ludacris, All Time Low, Sean Kingston, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Carson Daly, Ashley Greene, Dakota Fanning, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jay Leno, the cast of The View, Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Wendy Williams and more.

From 4pm until midnight ET on Nov. 15, the cast of Jersey Shore, along with stars from other MTV shows including Awkward, Teen Wolf, Teen Mom, The Challenge and The Real World, will be live in MTV’s Times Square studio, personally calling donors to thank them for giving online or for texting a $10 donation. All funds raised will go to Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit that led rebuilding efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. They are now setting out to help rebuild the boardwalk, local businesses and homes in Seaside Heights ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.

People can donate to Architecture for Humanity’s Seaside rebuilding fund at RestoretheShore.MTV.com, or indiegogo.com; by texting SHORE to 85944; or by purchasing the MTV “Restore the Shore” T-shirt (which is $20) on shop.MTV.com or at Modell’s Sporting Goods. The Architecture for Humanity fund will collect donations to be principally directed toward the rebuilding of the famed Seaside Heights boardwalk, as well as supporting the rebuilding efforts of in-need businesses and residents in Seaside.

Everyone who donates $25 or more will receive an MTV “Restore the Shore” song bundle, which includes 30 songs from the past six seasons of Jersey Shore. Viacom will be donating $100,000 to Architecture for Humanity in support of the “Restore the Shore” fund, as part of its $1 million Viacommunity pledge to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Restore the Shore airs Nov. 15 live at 11pm ET (tape-delayed PT) on MTV, MTV.com, MTV mobile and MTV radio.
