Travel Channel special chronicles making of 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

The 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue will be released on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and a few days later, on Sunday, Feb. 17, Travel Channel will premiere a one-hour special that takes a look at the production of this year’s installment of the famed issue.

The special, titled Sports Illustrated: The Making of Swimsuit ’13 — 7 Continents, 17 Wonders, airs at 8pm ET/PT on Feb. 17, and visits the exotic locales featured in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, giving behind-the-scenes insight into what makes these photo shoots so difficult.

The production of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue brought the models and team to all seven continents for the first time ever, including the first fashion shoot to take place on icy Antarctica (brr!). Models also battled sandstorms on African dunes and traversed treacherous cliffs in Asia. Who said posing in a bikini is all about just looking good?

Considering the far-flung corners of the world that this special — and the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue photo shoots — visit, it probably makes sense that it appears on the Travel Channel, and that’s the sentiment that Laureen Ong, president of the network, conveys.

“We jumped at the chance to partner with Sports Illustrated,” said Ong, “knowing our viewers will enjoy this fascinating and exciting travel show packed with extreme backdrops and locations. This is not an hour of just models posing on sandy beaches — this special takes viewers to all seven continents, spotlighting the most magnificent places in the world.”

Sports Illustrated: The Making of Swimsuit ’13 — 7 Continents, 17 Wonders premieres on Travel Channel Feb. 17 at 8pm ET/PT.

The 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is available starting Feb. 12.
