This Sunday, Feb. 24, live at 6pm ET, Telemundo will broadcast Chivas vs. Leon, a match that could start making the Liga MX playoff picture a bit more clear. Once again, Andrés Cantor will have the call, and will be joined by Sammy Sadovnik for commentary and analysis. The match will also be streamed online at deportestelemundo.com.
Chivas vs. Leon will take place at Omnilife Stadium for the first time (the previous times these teams faced each other in Guadalajara were at Jalisco Stadium). Chivas has not won at home yet, and currently sits in 10th place, two spots behind the final playoff spot if the regular season ended today.
Chivas hopes to relive the past against Leon. On September 14, 2012, LeĂłn held a 1-0 lead with just eight minutes to go, but Guadalajara mounted a comeback thanks to goals by Jorge GarcĂa in the 82nd minute and Rafael Márquez Lugo (pictured) with a score in the 90th minute. Both GarcĂa and Márquez Lugo were starters in Chivas’ 1-1 tie against Puebla last weekend and it looks like Márquez Lugo will be available to play in front of his home fans once again on Sunday.
On the other hand, LeĂłn is on the rise after getting its first win of the year defeating San Luis 2-0 last Saturday. “La Fiera” will try to take advantage of its momentum to win at Chivas’ home field for the first time since August 20, 2000, and will rely on MatĂas Britos to attempt to do so. Britos called the match against Chivas “one of the best challenges” his team could have, and he also said that he “would like to exact some payback for their last loss [against Chivas].”
Head-to-head statistics in Chivas vs Leon matches favor Chivas, which has 19 wins, 21 ties and just seven losses against Leon.

Las Chivas llegan a la octava fecha del campeonato sin haber podido ganar en casa todavĂa, pero aun asĂ se encuentran en dĂ©cimo lugar a apenas un punto de los Pumas de la UNAM y del Santos, dueño del Ăşltimo cupo a la liguilla si el campeonato fuese a terminar hoy mismo.
El rebaño sagrado espera poder reeditar la apasionante victoria sobre el LeĂłn del torneo pasado, cuando los Panzas Verdes ganaban por 1-0 hasta que el conjunto rojiblanco dio vuelta el resultado con goles de Jorge GarcĂa al minuto 82 y Rafael Márquez Lugo sobre la hora.
Tanto GarcĂa como Márquez Lugo fueron titulares en el empate 1-1 frente al Puebla la fecha pasada y todo parece indicar que el chiverĂo volverá a contar con la cuota goleadora de Márquez Lugo para afrontar este nuevo desafĂo frente a su gente.
Por su parte, el LeĂłn viene en alza y respira aliviado tras lograr su primera victoria del campeonato por 2-0 frente al San Luis el sábado pasado. La Fiera intentará ganar en cancha de Chivas por primera vez desde el 20 de agosto del 2000 y se va a respaldar en la capacidad goleadora de MatĂas Britos. Britos calificĂł al partido contra Chivas como “el desafĂo más lindo” para su equipo y dijo que le gustarĂa “cobrar la deuda tras la derrota sufrida el campeonato pasado”.
Esta será la primera vez en la historia que ambos equipos se enfrentarán en el Estadio Omnilife, (ya que todos sus choques en tierra tapatĂa fueron en el Jalisco). El historial general favorece a las Chivas con 19 victorias, 21 empates y apenas siete derrotas. LeĂłn supo ganar tres veces en territorio del rebaño, cayendo en nueve ocasiones y repartiendo puntos en otras 11.
