The library is open on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5! Reading is fun-damental, hunties!
The episode begins with Alaska cutting the creamy middle out of RoLaskaToxx. About time, Alaska. She’s figured out that she doesn’t stand out in the group, and with only 7 queens left, she needs to stand out. We don’t dwell on that too long at the start, so I don’t think anyone was surprised.

The mini-challenge is the ever-popular read of each other. One by one the queens are called to the front, don the shades of shade and let them have it. Alaska continues her quest to stand out by winnning it with her read of Detox – she’s so seductive, but it’s illegal to do it with her as most of her parts are under 18 years of age. Oooh!
Part of this challenge gives the queens an opportunity to work with comedians — the only one I’ve heard of is Bruce Vilanch. The others are Nadya Ginsberg and Deven Green. Ok, now that I’ve gone to Deven’s web site, yes, I’ve totally heard of her character Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian.
This week’s main challenge is creating a roast of RuPaul. Everything’s on the table — Ru, the other queens, the other judges. Anything. And anything is a lot of rope to hang oneself with, is it not?
Alyssa seems to think her jokes are too much. No one else agrees with her. Michelle Visage takes the Tim Gunn Ru role & gives each queen some advice on their jokes. Coco decides to create a character instead of doing a straight roast. Jinkx has a bout of narcolepsy #NarcolepticDragQueen.
The queens each seem to have a bad time in front of the mentors. Mostly because what they showed in the clips really wasn’t funny. You know there’s going to be some funny.
Of course, when we get to the roast, Alaska is great opening the show. Roxxxy bombs. Coco does well, as does Jinkx. Ivy has some moments, but some misses as well. Alyssa bombs. Detox does ok until she loses her place in her notes. She also drops a lot of f-bombs, which was unnecessary.
The judges’ critiques aren’t really surprising. Alyssa and Roxxxy were the only two real stinkers in the bunch, so it’s obvious they are the bottom two. And the show has been promoing Roxxxy’s meltdown for the entire season, so that’s coming as well. They’re lip synching to Whip My Hair, so Roxxxy smartly does a hair reveal – she’s got a 2nd wig made for whipping under her runway wig.

And her meltdown is a doozy. Her mother left her at a bus stop when she was 3. This is one of those episodes where you need to watch the Untucked episode for this meltdown to make sense at all. Without watching Untucked, Roxxxy’s meltdown seems really random, and perhaps even calculated, since it looks like it comes out of nowhere right as Ru’s going to tell us who is sashaying away.
In Untucked, Ru shows the queens their baby pictures, which gets them all talking about their past. Jinkx had an alcoholic mother and she had to take care of her younger brother. Roxxxy brings up that her mother left him & his sister at a bus stop, never to see them again. It is a really sad story. I just wish the episode had been structured so you could get a little of the why Roxxxy is dwelling on this story in the episode.
So yes, in the end they both stay and no one sashays away. We’ve still got the Seven Sisters of drag. But we want to know – which one is Smith & which one is Barnard? Tell us your thoughts on this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5 below!

No one deserves the kind of treatment Roxxxy received. She puts up a wall & through the magic of TV editing, she may be coming off worse than she actually is. This seems to be the season where EVERYBODY’s deep dark secrets will be revealed (given this week’s episode AND the preview of the next episode). I might want a little less of that next season. Not sure yet about that though..
I feel bad that happened to Roxxxy, but l don’t like Roxxxy. He is self centered all about him.
Ivy did better than I thought she would during RuPaul’s roast, but I was surprised Coco won the challenge I thought Jinkx was going to take home another win. I have a new work schedule at DISH, and will miss next week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
