According to a release, Dateline will go inside the story to answer urgent questions about the Boston Marathon bombings that still remain unanswered. The broadcast will reveal new details of how exactly the bombings happened, who the suspects — Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev — are, and where the investigation will go from here.

Lester Holt hosts the Dateline special, taking viewers through the events of the last 10 days, starting with the Boston Marathon bombings and including the killing of MIT campus police officer Sean Collier, the carjacking, the violent Watertown shootout, and the final takedown of the suspected bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (pictured; his older brother Tamerlan was killed during the shootout). Additionally, Dateline provides new information from those who knew and interacted with the Tsarnaev brothers.

Holt sits down with Jacqui Webb, a victim severely wounded in the Boston Marathon bombings, for her first and only interview since the attack. Webb credits her boyfriend, Paul, and his brother, JP, for saving her life. Both brothers lost a leg that day. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis also opens up to Holt about what he thinks the suspected bombers were planning next; Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas gives Dateline a detailed account of the shooting of 27-year-old Sean Collier; Watertown Police Chief Ed Deveau shares information about the shootout; eyewitnesses share their step-by-step recollections of the late-night firefight on Laurel Street.

Here are some excerpts from NBC’s Dateline investigation of the Boston Marathon bombings. The full episode airs Wednesday, April 24, at 8pm/7c.

Interview with Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis:

LESTER HOLT:

Was the Boston Marathon their last target?

COMMISSIONER ED DAVIS:

I don’t believe it was. I — you know, there were clearly — an extensive number of bombs that were — that were in their possession at the time of the shootout. … We had to step over some unexploded devices that they threw at the officers. And, I can only understand from that that they had other targets. They were going other places. And, so, these guys had more plans and we interrupted those plans. They were going somewhere and they have evil intent.

Interview with victim Jacqui Webb:

LESTER HOLT:

So what do you remember about the blast that you were in?

JACQUI WEBB:

It’s a big white light. It’s this sound that’s incredible and I just remember it being so dusty and you just see smoke. …

LESTER HOLT:

A piece of zipper was actually embedded in your leg?

JACQUI WEBB:

Uh huh. My surgeon came in the next day and told me. Showed me on the x-ray. And he said, “we took it out and sent it to the FBI.”

LESTER HOLT:

So it was part of the bomb?

JACQUI WEBB:

Yeah, it was either part of the bomb or we were thinking it’s probably part of the backpack. …

LESTER HOLT:

So how do you process all this? That someone would attack this city and attack something as innocent as the Boston Marathon?

JACQUI WEBB:

I think it’s disgusting. I don’t know how you can process it. I’m lucky to be alive. I feel that way. They said that my boyfriend, who threw me, took the brunt of it.
