TLC is bringing back celebrity genealogy series “Who Do You Think You Are?”

The former NBC genealogy documentary series Who Do You Think You Are? is being resurrected by TLC, which has ordered eight new hourlong episodes to begin airing July 23, the network announced. Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal) are back as executive producers of the series that finds celebrities looking into their pasts to discover unknown details about themselves and their families.

“I’ve never stopped hearing about how much people love Who Do You Think You Are?, and I’ve always known that we’ve had more great stories to share,” said Lisa Kudrow.

“TLC is a great home for the series, and we join our excited celebrity participants as we unearth some amazing background and surprising histories,” added Dan Bucatinsky.

Among the celebrities who have signed up for the new season are Christina Applegate, Cindy Crawford, Zooey Deschanel and Chris O’Donnell, with others to be announced. Ancestry.com is teaming with TLC as a sponsor, and as part of the show sponsorship provides family history research on each of the celebrities.

In its initial run, Who Do You Think You Are?, an adaptation of a British series, aired on NBC from 2010-2012.

UPDATE 6/26/13: TLC has announced the full lineup of celebrity contributors for the new season of Who Do You Think You Are? Featured will be Christina Applegate, Kelly Clarkson, Cindy Crawford, Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Handler, Chris O’Donnell, Jim Parsons and Trisha Yearwood.

Who Do You Think You Are? returns with new episodes on TLC beginning July 23 at 9pm ET/PT.
