PBS re-airing Lou Reed “American Masters” documentary

Check your local PBS listings over the next week — the network has announced that it will be re-airing the 1998 American Masters documentary Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart nationwide Oct. 31 at 10pm ET. Select PBS stations, including the WORLD channel, will be airing the film through Nov. 7 (according to PBS, about two-thirds of the U.S. should be able to see the rebroadcast of this film). Confirmed air dates at this point are Oct. 31 at 10pm on PBS So Cal in the Los Angeles area, and Nov. 4 at 9pm on THIRTEEN in the New York metro area. The documentary is re-airing in remembrance of Lou Reed, the influential rock star who passed away Sunday at the age of 71.

The one-hour Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart originally aired in April 1998, and chronicled the life to that point of Reed, who had been at the forefront of American avant-garde music since the creation of the Velvet Underground in 1965, and throughout his later solo career.

According to Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, “Lou Reed music was the backbeat to our lives and his lyrics were our conscience. His death is a blow, not only to New York City, but also to the world.”
