You’re forgiven if you’re less than super-excited about Super Bowl XLVIII. With so few dominant teams and so many playoff-caliber teams struggling with injuries, you get the feeling that the team hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 2 will be the luckiest, not the best.

Held at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, this is the first outdoor Super Bowl played in a cold-weather environment, and a blizzard might make for an interesting game. Bruno Mars performs at halftime. We’re hoping it’s really, really cold.

Here’s our roundup of the best and worst from the NFL season:

Best
QB Peyton Manning threw seven TD passes in Week 1, and the Broncos were a scoring machine for much of the season. New head coach Andy Reid helped turn around the Chiefs from a 2-14 team last season to this year’s last unbeaten team at 9-0. RB Reggie Bush finally gave the Lions’ offense a ground game to complement QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson. After last year’s suspension, head coach Sean Payton returned and helped make the Saints Super Bowl contenders again. QB Russell Wilson kept the Seahawks’ offense rolling, making Seattle a top NFC team. He wasn’t even supposed to be the starter, but Eagles QB Nick Foles threw for seven TDs in Week 9. Everyone loves safeties! There were three safeties in Week 1 alone, and the Dolphins won on a safety in overtime in Week 9.

 Worst
An ugly, mistake-prone season for the Ravens and QB Joe Flacco made last year’s Super Bowl win seem like ages ago. Great RB Adrian Peterson couldn’t cover up the Vikings’ terrible QB performances. The Giants got off to an 0-6 start with QB Eli Manning completing lots of passes to opponents. The Buccaneers were on a rudderless ship from the season’s start. Key injuries and bad defense grounded the Falcons’ playoff hopes. The Texans were the NFL’s most disappointing team, and their fans showed no class by cheering QB Matt Schaub’s injury. That didn’t take long: Lions DT Ndamukong Suh was fined a record $100,000 for an illegal block in Week 1. The Dolphins bullying scandal revealed that large, highly paid men can still act like children. Obnoxious Jaguars fans calling for the team to sign QB Tim Tebow deserve what they get. The fact that R*dskins owner Daniel Snyder won’t even consider changing the team’s nickname shouldn’t surprise anyone.
