Investigation Discovery announces Deadline Crime With Tamron Hall Season 2

In addition to the upcoming new series Secret Lives of Stepford Wives and its tongue-in-cheer Valentine’s Day offering 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Investigation Discovery announced a second season of its popular newsmagazine Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall at the 2014 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour. Season 2 will premiere in the spring.tamron hall

Hosted by Hall, who divides her time between the series and duties with MSNBC and NBC’s Today, Deadline Crime features the veteran journalist delving into compelling murder investigations to examine what compels people to kill and whether justice is ultimately served.  In Season 2, Hall says she will also revisit memorable cases from Season 1, spending less time in the studio and more time out in the field.

Hall told  told journalists that her ultimate motivation in doing the series is to help murder victims’ loved ones move forward. Hall’s own sister was found dead and brutalized in her swimming pool. The death is still unsolved.

“My priority at that point became how do I heal my heart and teach others that you can reach out?” she said. “I feel like I failed my sister because I knew there was domestic violence happening, but I didn’t reach out.”

Season 2 will also feature the case of Alicia Kozakiewica who was abducted outside her Pittsburgh home in 2002 by a 38-year-old man she met in a Yahoo chat room and sexually assaulted and tortured for four days, before FBI agents swooped in to save her based on information from a tipster who saw a video her tormenter made of the then 14-year-old. Now an internet safety and awareness advocate, and founder of The Alicia Project, Kozakiewica says predators prey on kids’ insecurities and give them longed-for praise and attention.

Hall echoes the idea that emotion can cloud everyone’s better judgement — family members in addition to crime victims.

“It’s not as easy as ‘why don’t kids get it, why don’t we put our seat belts on, why do we still speed,’” she says. ‘You’re blinded by love.”

Hall — who says her three-network commitment often equates with a 7-day-a-week workload — admits she isn’t certain if she will ever be brave enough to feature her own family’s story on Deadline: Crime With Tamron Hall. But, she says, the show affords her a unique brand of therapy and empowerment.

Deadline: Crime With Tamron Hall Season 2 premieres this spring on Investigation Discovery.
