The Vampire Diaries recap: “Resident Evil”

It’s been a long couple of weeks, and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries is finally back. First of all, this whole love triangle thing between Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is getting a little old. Now that Elena has officially ended things with Damon she’s been thinking a little too much about Stefan. Now we all know that the relationship between Elena and Damon was far from perfect but when it finally happened many of us were just so happy that she finally picked one of the brothers. Well, now things are flipped upside down again. However, it might not be what we think it is yet. Now that Stefan’s doppelganger has died, Elena and Stefan are the last of their doppelgangers that are left, and so weird things are bound to happen between them.

vampire diariesOf course there’s always something going on in the lovely Mystic Falls. Bonnie (Kat Graham) gets a visit from her Grams (Jasmine Guy) and gets the news from her that there is something very wrong on the other side of the veil. When Bonnie goes to find Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) she finds a situation that any girl wouldn’t want to find. Jeremy is now working with Liv (Penelope Mitchell)—who recently lied to Bonnie and almost killed Elena—along with Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino). Now what in the world is going on? All we know so far is that Liv is supposedly working against the travelers and the three boys are helping her. However, when Bonnie comes over Liv doesn’t want to tell her anything so now Jeremy has to be an even worse boyfriend and keep a secret from Bonnie. Come on Jeremy, pull it together.

Obviously, though, nothing can stay a secret in Mystic Falls. Remember that whenever a supernatural person dies they have to go through Bonnie to get to the other side of the veil. Well guess who shows up to pass through Bonnie in this episode? Matt—if we had a dollar for every time Matt died we’d all be rich. It’s a good thing he has his handy ring so he’ll be back up and kicking in no time. Before he goes back he finds his sister Vicki (Kayla Ewell) and unfortunately it’s not a happy reunion. Vicki is ripped from his arms after she lets him know that there is definitely something wrong and he needs to get back to his body as soon as possible.

What happened to Matt anyways? We think it’s the travelers who are behind this nonsense when we see someone approach Sheriff Liz (Marguerite MacIntyre) and suddenly she’s a whole new person. When she finds Matt in her office she stabs him in the neck and kills him. When Tyler finds out what is happening with the Sheriff he finds her and stabs her with the traveler’s knife so that she returns to her normal self.

Meanwhile, Damon is still hanging around Enzo (Michael Malarkey) when Elena and Caroline (Candice Accola) show up. When Elena has another fantasy about Stefan she finally figures out where the person controlling all of this is. Damon and Enzo go off to the address she gives them and they find a passenger named Markos (Raffi Barsoumian). He’s been putting a spell on Elena and Damon for a very long time attracting them to each other and now it’s finally over. Not only has he been controlling this but he also knows where Enzo’s girlfriend, Maggie—the girl he’s been looking for a very long time—is. Will Enzo finally get his happy ending and get out of the crazy life he’s making for himself in Mystic Falls? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out, but everyone, keep your eyes on Markos because he’s a sneaky one. Check out a preview from CW’s The Vampire Diaries next week:
