Joel McHale (Community) will be the entertainer at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, put on by the White House Correspondents’ Association. This year marks the centennial of the organization. The dinner is traditionally attended by the President and First Lady, as well as other senior government officials and members of the press corps. Guests at the event often include celebrities from various fields. President Obama is expected to speak at the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, as well.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) partnered with History to produce a video, which chronicles the origin of the WHCA in 1914 and its evolution over the years (the annual dinner dates back to 1921). The video will include interviews with President Obama, President Clinton, key historians, press secretaries and current celebrity hosts.
Deadline.com reports that some of the celebrity guests expected to be in attendance at the 2014 White House Correspondents Dinner include Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), Lupita Nyong’o, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Darren Criss, Sofia Vergara, Braid Paisley, Julianna Marguiles, Robin Wright, Olivia Munn, Gov. and Mrs. Christie (NJ), Gov. Rick Perry (TX), Diane Lane, Tony Romo and more.
Where to watch televised coverage of the 2014 White House Correspondents Dinner (all times ET; check back for updates as coverage is announced):
C-SPAN — Live coverage begins at 6pm, with an abbreviated replay starting at 11pm.
CNN — Live coverage airs 8-11pm. Don Lemon will anchor CNN’s coverage, with national correspondent Suzanne Malveaux and entertainment correspondent Nischelle Turner also featured. The first two hours of the network’s coverage will include the best moments from past White House Correspondents’ dinners, and anchor Jake Tapper’s one-on-one interview with headliner Joel McHale. The 10pm hour will include live coverage of President Obama’s remarks, and McHale’s entertainment. CNN will repeat its coverage at 11pm.
MSNBC — Craig Melvin will host Washington Meets Hollywood May 3 at 3pm. The one-hour special features insiders from both coasts, including Scandal stars Tony Goldwyn and Dan Bucatinsky, as well as actor Michael Kelly (House of Cards). Later, MSNBC will feature live coverage of the dinner from 9-11pm, with coverage also streaming on msnbc.com.
