Celebrate What’s Possible With Kid President: Declaration Of Awesome

If you’ve been on the Internet lately, you’ve likely run across a YouTube video of Kid President. The viral videos, made by 10-year-old Robby Novak and his brother-in-law Brad Montague, have logged over 75 million views and have led to Hub Network’s new show, Kid President: Declaration of Awesome, premiering Saturday, June 21 at 7pmET/4pmPT.

When the duo began their videos in 2012, they were surprised by the attention they received. Says Montague, “We never imagined our little videos would connect with so many people, and yet, here we are. This truly all began because we wanted to make the world, and the Internet, a little brighter.” The web series imparted Kid President’s ways to make the world a happier, better and more awesome place, and features Robby’s signature dance moves. Dancing is just one of the ways that Robby celebrates life, and defies it. He was born with a brittle bone condition that has resulted in more than 70 bone fractures since his birth, but Robby would rather face the world by seeing only the positivity and possibilities in himself and others.

How is the pint-sized star adapting to fame and fans? “They take my picture. It’s weird,” says Robby. “Stop taking pictures of me and take pictures of the world, people!” On his web series, Kid President has already met President Obama and kissed Beyoncé Knowles. This season on Kid President: Declaration of Awesome, Robby has guests including Christina Applegate, Lake Bell, Kevin Costner, Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Lin. For Montague, having celebrities on the show is fun, like inviting people over to play, but “there is no such thing as a non-celebrity. Everybody deserves to be treated like a rock star.” Despite playing with so many amazing people, Robby does have his hopes set on meeting two super-strong superstars. “I want to meet Hugh Jackman. He’s Wolverine! Also Troy Polamalu from the Steelers. He has awesome hair.”

When Kid President moved from online to on TV, the biggest change that Montague found was scope. “The web show was shot entirely by just Robby and myself,” he explains. “We live across the street from each other. It was done with a pretty average camera and filmed at my house. Now we have real cameras and other people to help us. It’s pretty crazy.” When asked how the half-hour TV show will differ from their roughly three-minute videos, Montague laughed. “I’m told there will be some commercials in there, but we didn’t make those.”
