MLB Home Run Derby 2014

ESPN airs the 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby Monday, July 14, beginning at 8pm ET from Target Field in Minneapolis.

Chris “Back Back Back Back, etc.” Berman will host the telecast with analyst John Kruk. Buster Olney and Pedro Gomez provide reports and interviews with participants.

The Derby has a new format this year that should speed up the pace (thankfully!) and keep the participants fresh for the finals. There will be a maximum of seven outs per round and a bracketed format after the first round. The player who hits the most home runs in each league in the first round automatically advances to the third round. The second round features head-to-head matchups with the winners advancing to the semifinals.  The AL and NL semifinal winners face off in the finals.

Oakland’s Yoenis Cespedes won the 2013 Derby and will return to attempt a repeat title.
