Michael Strahan Hosts Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards

KIds Choice Sports Awards

Kids Choice Sports AwardsOn Thursday, Nickelodeon will premiere its inaugural Kids’ Choice Sports awards at 8pmET/PT, where kids decide the winners in an array of 14 kid-focused categories including Favorite Male and Female Athlete, “Sickest Moves,” “King and Queen of Swag,” “Favorite Newcomer,” and “Don’t Try This at Home Award.” The awards show is hosted and executive produced by Michael Strahan, the former NFL star turned sports analyst turned daytime TV talk show host (LIVE with Kelly and Michael.) So basically, loveable Michael has taken over the universe.

Who better than Strahan to host an awards show geared to the energetic pre-tween set? Strahan has always possessed the energy of a jubilant toddler and his gap-tooth grin belies what a fierce and fear-enduing competitor he was during his 15 seasons as a bone-crunching defensive end for the New York Giants.

Kids Choice Sports AwardsStrahan said, “As an athlete and as a father to four kids who grew up with Nickelodeon, I know firsthand what an important role sports play in kids’ lives. This is going to be a kids’ Super Bowl-sized event that will have the best athletes, the best entertainment, the most fun, and of course the best slimings the world of sports has ever seen for the whole family to watch together.”

Multi-Grammy, award-winning artist Pharrell Williams and country superstar duo Florida George Line are schedule to perform during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports awards, and in true Nickelodeon spirit, the event will feature a daring, slime-filled sports stunt, a special halftime live musical performance and top athletes competing outside their sports realm for a KCS trophy.

Nickelodeon announced that two of the NFL’s most dynamic players–Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Seattle Seahawks defensive back Earl Thomas III–will test their mettle in the inaugural Kids’ Choice Sports 2014 “Verizon Power Dunk” competition. Fitzgerald and Thomas will face off to see who can first hit a bulls-eye target that dunks the other into a tank filled to the brim with a surprise substance. Verizon and Nickelodeon will be giving fans the chance to choose which gooey mess the athletes will get dunked in via a live vote.

Also during the awards, Nickelodeon will bestow the first-ever Kids’ Choice Sports Legend Award to soccer star David Beckham, in recognition of his incredible talent and outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field. Nickelodeon has recognized Beckham as the ultimate role model, inspiring generations of kids year after year.

Celebrity presenters include: Super Bowl XLVIII champion Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks), NBA superstar Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Will Arnett and Megan Fox (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Nick Cannon (America’s Got Talent), George Lopez (Lopez Tonight), pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, Olympic snowboarder Kelly Clark, pro surfer Bethany Hamilton,Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney and Rico Rodriguez (Modern Family).

And excited kids don’t have to wait until 8pm to catch the action. Kids can tune in at 7:30pm to see their favorite athletes, actors, and celebrities bring their swagger and style to the Nickelodeon orange carpet.
