Little Women: LA Recap, Episode 9 “Here Comes The Bride”

Little Women: LA recapHere comes the bride! It’s time for a Little Women wedding! There is something incredibly sweet about a wedding. Any wedding. I just love them. I love watching two people reaffirm their love in front of family and friends. It reminds me of my own wedding and the other wedding I have =been fortunate to witness.  Love begats love. And it’s a chance to dress up and get down!

One month after Christy and Todd’s near-elopement, in Las Vegas, their hastily planned wedding is only 3 days away. I can’t believe that Christy planned an entire wedding in a month! She is either Superwoman, is getting lots of help, or is delirious. Maybe a little of all three. My wedding took forever to plan and it nearly killed me!

Christy takes Briana and Elena with her as she tries on her wedding dress (from Dolly Couture) one final time.  Elena jokes, “She is the least organized bride I have ever seen in my life.” Christy’s dress is absolutely stunning, and she has come across a genius solution for finding a wedding gown to fit her stature. Her wedding dress is a 1950’s style dress that would fall just below knee-length on a woman of average stature. It’s perfect on her and doesn’t look like it needed extensive alterations like Traci’s gorgeous dress does. Two different solutions to a common problem.

Christy’s children will be participating in the wedding too. I can’t wait to see her kids. When I spoke to her last week, Christy was so thrilled that her children were participating in her wedding and hoped that they’d be a part of Season 2 of Little Women: LA.

7 Questions With Christy McGinty,
Interview with Christy McGinty- How she met Todd, her strained relationships and her fight against Alcohol.

Terra invited Tonya, Traci and Joe and Trevoré over to trash talk about Christy and her wedding. Traci is just glad that Christy is having a nice wedding. Terra then asks about the status of Tonya and Trevoré’s relationship, so girlfriend dishes it right back and asks Joe when she and Terra are getting married. It’s an awkward situation because Terra basically pleads for an engagement in front of her friends. Joe doesn’t seem moved by Terra’s pleas and doesn’t see a need to get engaged because they already live together.

Due to their whirlwind romance, Christy hasn’t yet met Todd’s parents. We were introduces to Christy’s mom Sharon earlier in the season when she and Christy got hilarious pedicures. Christy’s dad is sweet and when Todd’s Dad and Step-mom are introduced, I understand why Todd’s dad is so important to him. He and Todd share the same lovely calm mature. He’s certainly more subdued than Christy’s outrageous family and patiently listens while Christy’s mom (who is chugging champagne) reveals mortifying stories about Christy. Good times include a charming tale about Christy serving cocktails dressed as a Leprechaun and the perfect-for-fancy-dinner revelation that birthing Christy (in her dining room) resulted in 28 stitches … down there.

“Words are pouring out of her mouth, like word-vomit,” says a horrified Christy.  Sharon is revealing waaaaay too much about Christy’s past and her ex-husband. It’s awesome!

When Ken adopted Todd, they didn’t know he was a dwarf! And they didn’t know he had dwarfism until age 2. Both sets of parents found common ground talking about their “battle stories” of raising a little person.

Little Women: LA recap Christy asks the girls to help make floral arrangements for the rehearsal dinner. When Elena isn’t drinking alcohol, the ladies speculate that a Preston Jr. is on the way. I feel bad for Elena, but my friends and I play the same game. If someone isn’t drinking we always ask if that woman is pregnant.  It’s how we’ve revealed some of our pregnancies.  Elena, doesn’t want to pull focus from Christy’s wedding and the task at hand, keeps it classy and utters a “Today, no comment.” Of course, she has a sly look on her face, but Elena’s a great friend and if she has news to share, she’ll do it at a future date. She will make a wonderful mother. (FYI-in her confessional, I think Elena’s face looks a bit fuller, so I’m hoping she’s pregnant!  What do you think?)

Then they talk about the ladies sexual preferences and these girls are dirty birdies!! They compare sexual exploits with average-height men vs. little men and some of the women reveal their favorite positions and different positions they have to use when having sex with a taller man.

Traci still is unwavering in her decision not to invite Christy to her wedding. It’s a little weird because Traci is coming to Christy’s wedding and is helping with wedding activities.

The day before the wedding, Christy is blowing the wedding budget on buying gifts for the wedding attendants. They’re writing their own wedding vows and while Christy hasn’t finished writing hers, she doesn’t like that Todd found his vows on the Internet. Todd’s argument is awesome, “You’ve bought me gifts before, why didn’t you make it? Should I take you out to a nice dinner or should I just made you a sandwich, because I made it?  How is it different?” Todd makes a valid point:  he found words words that perfectly convey his emotions and it shouldn’t matter if they were written by someone else. Why stress yourself by writing your own vows, it adds even more stress onto an already stressful day. He says, “I love you, and my vows to you, whether I write them or not, are going to be the most perfect thing I can say to you in that moment.” Aww, I heart cut-and-paste. Why write them yourself, when you can borrow from Shakespeare, The Velveteen Rabbit or even Dr. Seuss?

Christy realizes she’s just being a bridezilla; it’s just the stress. Wedding plans make people crazy.

Joe and Terra are house hunting. I thought their other house was perfect! But it’s a rental. Terra loves Joe, but sometimes she’s not sure if they can make it work together.

Little Women: LA RecapAt Todd and Christy’s rehearsal dinner, Christy and Todd are feeling butterflies of excitement. And Elena’s not drinking once again! Even my husband thinks she has pregnant face (yay!)!! We meet Christy’s children Autumn and Trenton.  I’m not sure how old they are, but Trenton is handsome and Autumn will be gorgeous like her Mom. Autumn is good-natured when it accidentally comes out that Christy and Todd almost eloped in Las Vegas. Remember that Christy didn’t want to disappoint her kids by eloping and robbing them of the wedding experience? Good thing Christy changed her mind and her kids get to be a part. Little girls LOVE being in weddings (even teen girls like Autumn).

Christy’s sister Kelly shared stories of growing up with Christy and reveals that their brother refuses to attend the wedding because Christy and Todd have lived together before marriage. He’s also unable to get over his childhood jealousy of the attention Christy received due to her medical issues. But ultimately, it’s her brother’s loss.

The morning of the wedding, Christy is still writing her vows. Once again, Todd calms her down and helps her remember what’s important.

Briana’s sweet daughter Leiana is the precious flower girl. She is so charming.

The ceremony location is stunning. I’m not sure exactly where it is, but the views from the terrace are breathtaking.

Joe isn’t’ feeling well and won’t attend the ceremony, but hopes to feel well enough to come to the reception. Elena thinks that this is just another time that Joe isn’t there for Terra.

Little Women: LA recapAfter Leiana’s adorable flower petal-less skip down the aisle, it’s time for Christy. She’s a second late, adding a moment of tension.  When she finally appears on the stairs, Todd is amazed by her beauty. To the strains of the wedding march, her father presents Christy to Todd. Grab your tissues, here’s the part of every wedding when I start crying.

Todd’s vows were amazing, and I’ll write them here so you can steal them for your own future wedding.

Little-Women-Ep9-vows“Christy, you are my companion in life, and my one true love.
I love you today, tomorrow, and forever.
As I’ve given you my hands to hold, so I give you my life to keep.
This is my solemn vow.”

Aww, tears.

Christy needs her cell phone to read her vows, which is a much needed moment of levity in the midst of the love-crying.

“Ever since we met, I knew that we had something so special.
I feel as if I’ve known you for years. Todd, you make me a better person.
I just love that you fit so well with my family.
You are a great role model to my kids,
And I promise that I will always love you.
When you’re old, when you’re an Amigo, (a little person in a scooter)
And I will live and love you forever, for all eternity.”

After an exchange of rings, Todd and Christy are married and tenderly kiss back-lit by an afternoon sun. Let the festivities begin!

After the ceremony, Christy’s sweet daughter Autumn calls Todd, “Dad,” and I almost lost it. I wonder if Christy’s kids are excited to have Todd in their family. I hope that step-parenting Christy’s children helps fill the hole in his heart that the death of his baby caused.

Little Women: LA recapJoe was too “Sick” to come to the reception. It’s a bummer and Terra is feeling lonely amongst all of the love.
Terra “A wedding is hands down one of the most romantic things you can ever attend. It’s nice to share a day of live with someone you love.”

Trevoré tells his table that he’s falling for Tonya. And then everyone gangs up on Terra because she and Joe aren’t married. Terra admits that she would love to have kids more than she wants to be married. And Terra wants Joe to be the father of her children. It’s a little bit of a downer conversation in the midst of Christy and Todd celebrating their new life together. Fortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Gible are floating on a cloud of bliss.

Terra leaves the table. It’s too hard for her to be alone at the wedding. It seems like she may finally understand how Briana feels when they do couples events and she’s alone.

Terra wants it all, the commitment, the marriage, kids, and she wants it with Joe. If Joe’s not willing to make the commitment, maybe she should more on.

Little Women: LA RecapWhen it’s time for the bouquet toss, Terra puts on her game face. If she can’t get Joe to propose, perhaps she can push fate a little by catching the bridal bouquet. Unfortunately, one of the “Tall ho-bags” catches it. Don’t feel bad Terra, at my wedding, my bouquet was caught by a 10-year-old girl.

Tonya corners Preston and asks if he and Elena are expecting. Preston demurs and when Elena comes over, she lays into Tonya for talking to Preston. She reminds Tonya how upset she was when Elena talked to Curwin about Tonya. I wonder if this is payback. That would be a little shady, because Elena was very sorry for her transgression. (Did I just use the words “Demurs,” and “transgression”? What’s up, S.A.T. words?)

Tonya then creates a new idiom: “You can’t argue over spilled milk. You’ve just got to wipe it up. “

Elena: “Maybe I’m pregnant, maybe I’m not.” Please, please be pregnant!

Christy and Todd cut a cake that could easily feed 500 people. What are they going to do with all of that cake? Even if they share some with the crew, that’s a lot of leftovers. Hey Christy and Todd, we’re pals, right? Send me some cake! Just kidding, but it sure looks tasty. Christy got the wedding of her dreams. How amazing that she can erase the painful memories of her first wedding with her fantasy wedding day.

Two months later, we catch up with the ladies to find out what’s new.

Christy and Todd are happily married. Christy says her goal is to text Traci on her own wedding day and reveal that she’s pregnant. So mean.

Traci is busy preparing for her own wedding. And it’s in one week! She can’t wait to make love and sleep in the same room as her husband … and make babies.

Briana is dating an average-height man. And according to her, “She’s definitely not average where it counts.” Eew, but in her interview, Briana is looking more beautiful than ever.

Trevoré and Tonya are in a happy relationship and I am so glad for them. He seems like a great guy.

Elena and Preston are hoping to get pregnant. She’s taking another pregnancy test soon.

Terra and Joe aren’t engaged yet, but they are in couples counseling and working on their relationship. I’m glad they’re learning new techniques for building a stronger relationship. They are still looking for a home together, so that bodes well for them.

Todd and Christy pull out into the cool night air in a sweet vintage car and their loved ones wish them well and reminisce about the group of friend’s adventures together. Who knows what will happen for these remarkable Little Women in Season 2, but I know I’ll be watching and I hope you’ll watch too.
