Discovery Fit & Health airs night of Ebola documentaries

If you’re not scared of enough things in the world today, you may want to tune in for Discovery Fit & Health’s (DFH) “Ebola: Are We Next?” night on Sept. 18. The network is briefly breaking into its monthlong “Sextember” programming event (including the preemption of the special 100 Orgasms a Day) to present a few documentaries about the deadly Ebola virus.

ebola“Ebola: Are We Next?” is a block of programming dedicated to specials primarily about the dreaded Ebola virus, but also other outbreak-themed specials, too. At the heart of the block is the premiere special Ebola: Inside the Deadly Outbreak, airing Sept. 18 at 10pm ET, with a simulcast on Discovery Channel. The program is a “comprehensive look into the history, containment, and medical implications of this highly infectious disease,” says a DFH release. The show is led by Dr. Richard Besser, ABC News chief medical editor and former acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Besser travels to the hot zone in Monrovia, Liberia, to share the stories of patients and caretakers, and shares the moment that left him scared for his life. The hour will also air extended footage of the story of American couple Nancy and David Writebol, missionaries who put themselves on the front lines of this deadly contagion, only to find themselves in dire straits when Nancy was stricken with the virus.

During the premiere of Ebola: Inside the Deadly Outbreak, Dr. Besser will be answering questions and tweeting live. Follow @DrRichardBesser and @Disc_Health on Twitter.

Also airing during “Ebola: Are We Next?” night are Monsters Inside of Me: Outbreak, an encore episode of the series, airing at 8pm ET; and NBC News Special: Saving Dr. Brantly, airing at 9pm ET.
