7 Questions With … Allison Holker of Dancing With The Stars

Allison Holker

Allison HolkerSeason 19 is dance pro Allison Holker’s first on Dancing With the Stars, but the contemporary dancer and Emmy-nominated choreographer appeared as a contestant on Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance and returned to the dance competition multiple times as an all-star, so she is used to high-stakes dancing. But nevertheless, she was surprised by her intense DWTS practice schedule: “I’m pulling 14-hour days, every day. I’m so exhausted, but I’m ecstatic about my life I am so energized because I love the work I’m doing,” she revealed. “But it’s a good feeling and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I spoke with Allison the day after she and Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler (who has taken classes from Holker) danced to Sia’s Chandelier, and she answered our “7 Questions…”

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?
Women’s Health, Real Simple and Vogue

2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
Game of Thrones is the best, that’s my #1 for sure. I also love Friends and House of Cards.

3. What are three things you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Fruit snacks, coconut yogurt and potato chips.

4. What has been your strangest fan encounter?
When I was on Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance, the week I got voted off was the “Top 8” week. I met this girl that was a huge fan of mine and when I got voted off, she kicked her foot though her TV and broke her TV. That was the craziest thing I’ve ever heard! At the time, she was only 12 or 13 years-old and she was grounded for 2 months for shattering the family TV.

5. Tell us about a time when you were starstruck.
My husband and I were at the restaurant Nobu in Malibu and as we were entering, Will Smith opened the door and walked out to greet us. It was the craziest thing and he was so kind! He could have just walked past us, but he ended up shaking our hands, and talked with us for a second. That was a crazy moment in my life.

Another time, when I was on tour for So You Think You Can Dance, we were rehearsing in this studio space, and Janet Jackson was in the room next to us. Janet Jackson ended up walking into my rehearsal space and she knew my name! She said, “Allison, would you perform Why for me?” That was a dance I had performed on the show and that was one of her favorite numbers form the show. So I was like “Yes!!!” So my partner and I performed Why just for Janet Jackson.

6. What’s a movie you can watch over and over again?
Oh my god, Mean Girls! I literally love Mean Girls. When I saw that “Aaron Samuels” was my partner, I geeked so hard! It was so funny. I was like, “Oh my god, I love this movie!!!” I quote lines all the time; me and my friends always quote it together. Definitely Mean Girls, and it’s not just me saying it because Jonathan is my partner. We quote the movie together too, and I’m always pushing his hair back.

7. Who is your dream dance partner?
To be honest, if I get brought back as a pro next year, I want Ellen DeGeneres as my partner. I think it would be cool to have Ellen DeGeneres on the show.  She’s a huge fan of dance, she’s got some crazy killer moves and I think it would be an interesting twist to have two girls or two guys dancing together. [Channel Guide: That’s awesome; pitch it!!] Let’s pitch it to the show!!

  1. I enjoyed everything but the Ellen part, even though I would love her on the show. I personally love Ellen and have zero problem with people living their own lifestyles BUT if DWTS ever matches up two males or two females they have lost a long time viewer.
