“Love, Lust or Run” host Stacy London answers our “7 Questions”

Fashion maven Stacy London makes a welcome return to TLC in her new fashion make-under series Love, Lust or Run premiering Friday, Jan. 23 at 9pmET. The former What Not to Wear host is no stranger to giving candid yet constructive critiques to the fashion-challenged; however, in her new series she’s helping women tone down their over-the-top looks. “This is a make-under series in the sense that these women are Love, Lust or Run host Stacy Londondressing to an extreme, even more so than we saw on What Not to Wear,” London shares. “They dress this way sometimes aggressively, sometimes defensively, but all are dressing this way deliberately. Rather than say what they are doing is wrong, this show is an opportunity for them to understand the consequential reactions of others based on their sartorial choices, and I help them to see if there is a way to soften their look, make it more approachable without taking away the essence of who they are.” London shares more on the series as part of our “7 Questions.”

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?
Dwell, Lucky and Bon Appétit

2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
FX, HBO, Showtime (and of course TLC)

3. What are three things you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
Anything made by Rocco DiSpirito. He’s sort of my food/life coach. (I’m kidding about the life part.)

4. What’s a movie you can watch over and over again?
Alien, Scarface, The Grifters, Little Darlings, Walt Disney’s Robin Hood

5. When it comes to Love, Lust or Run and strangers rating these women, how do you go about getting their opinions? Are you showing them pictures of the girl? Is it like Stacy-on-the-street style?
A little of both. As for the individuals on the show, the public is shown specific pictures of the individual I am working with and we simply get their reactions. But throughout the show, you will see me taking to the streets to ask the public general questions as well. We are going for unvarnished truth, but when something felt too cruel or harsh, I would interpret the sentiment in a softer way. There are some funny responses and reactions.

6. How are you finding these girls who are featured on the show? Has someone submitted their name?
These women were cast by a casting department and found in a variety of ways, but they have to ask me for help. They are not nominated.

7. How do you help someone have better self-awareness?
I think, generally speaking, it is always a question of seeing whether or not what a person thinks they are transmitting about themselves is really being translated the same way by the public and those around them. If it isn’t and there is a disconnect, that is usually a good place to start getting someone to look at themselves differently.

Love, Lust or Run airs on TLC Fridays.

  2. Doubt Stacy will see this but I think she is amazing how she helps all types of women and makes them feel comfortable in their own skin. I am a plus size mother of the bride that wished she could make her daughter proud. There is nothing out there that is stylish for an age 50 happening Mom. Help

  3. DO YOUR CANDIDATES THAT DON’T WANT TO LOOK “OLD” REALLY NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH THEIR TIGHT OR RAGGEDY CLOTHES AGE THEM? I WATCHED FOR THE SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY & I THOUGHT TOMIKA (?) WAS APPX. 50 YRS OLD. ONCE HER FACE WAS WASHED I COULDN’T BELIEVE HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE WAS. AND HER NEW OUTFIT PUT HER AT THE RIGHT AGE. YOU HAD THE SAME RESULT ON “WHAT NOT TO WEAR” QUITE OFTEN.
