RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 episode 8 begins with a mini-challenge. The girls are sent to Tuckahoe prison with their guard LATRICE!! Yay! Get those nuts away from my face! The point of this exercise is to drag up their prison uniforms. Actually the point is to remember how fabulous Latrice is & see the queens use tea bags for earrings. And to be filler before the contestants see which eliminated queen is returning. The winner of the mini-challenge is Kennedy Davenport.
Katya: Latrice! It’s like seeing Sharon Stone! Except, you know, fat. And black.
This has been a fun little distraction, but it’s time to answer the question everyone’s been asking. Who is the queen that will be returning to RuPaul’s Drag Race. To no one’s surprise, Trixie Mattel comes out into the workroom. But it’s not over. Then Tempest comes in. Then Kandy Ho. Then ALL OF THEM. You have no idea indeed…
Only one of the eliminated queens gets to stay. Each current contestant has to team up with an eliminated queen to form a conjoined twin pair. Devious, Ru. The eliminated queen paired with the winning current queen gets to return to the competition. Everyone else who has already been eliminated sashays away again.
As winner of the mini-challenge, Kennedy gets to pick her eliminated queen first AND pair up the rest of the queens. (Mwahahahaha….) The pairs are:
- Kennedy & Jasmine Masters
- Ginger and Sasha Belle
- Pearl and Trixie (does Kennedy love Pearl or something?)
- Miss Fame and Kandy Ho
- Katya and Kasha
- Violet and Max
- Jaidynn and Tempest
Ginger lies & tells Sasha she’s glad she’s back & she’s glad Sasha is her partner. She’s lying. After much staring into space, they decide to be joined at the boob. Even though neither one of them can sew. Pearl & Trixie are having fun as they’ve worked together before. Kennedy was either completely oblivious to that fact (doubtful) or loves Pearl and Trixie.
Miss Fame and Ru have a “how’s your head” moment when we enter the mind games portion of the evening. We’re still not sure if she gets the joke. Ru stirs the pot by reminding Kasha Davis that she worked with Katya on the challenge that got Kasha eliminated.
Jaidynn and Tempest are the oddest pairing, but for a sewing challenge they’re probably one of the strongest pairs because they’re both seamstresses. Of course, most of this challenge isn’t actually about the sewing.
Ginger Minj is going to go all Yosemite Sam on Sasha because Sasha is chatting with the other contestants instead of focusing on the challenge at hand. And neither one of them sews, so….
Kennedy talks about the raw deal Jasmine got, which makes me wonder if this confessional speech was added after the online reaction to Jasmine. Because just from watching the show, Jasmine went home, but I don’t remember her really getting a raw deal. She did get a raw deal online from some fan reactions, but that’s not something Kennedy would’ve known about when they were filming.
While getting her makeup done, Tempest talks about doing reparative therapy and how much damage it did to her. We learn that Trixie took her drag name as a way to empower herself after not-so-great experiences with her step-dad.
This is probably the most entertaining runway I’ve seen in a long time. Most of the queens go the funny route. Miss Fame & Kandy Ho are read a bit for doing plastic surgery. Michelle compares them to Pearl’s death becomes her look. I thought Pearl’s look was more about a car accident or something & not plastic surgery. Who gets a neck brace after plastic surgery? I get reading Fame & Kandy for doing plastic surgery because it’s been done a million times before, but I’m not buying the Pearl comparison.
In other news, Miss Fame FINALLY GETS THE HEAD JOKE! Yay for listening (and maybe someone explaining it to her?)!
Nelsan Ellis and LeAnn Rhimes are the guest judges and completely inadequate compared to last week’s guest judges. That is all.
Anyone else wondering how these girls are going to lip synch for their lives? There’s going to have to be a costume change if they’re lipsynching independently. And a longer walk to the Untucked room.
Pearl and Trixie are the winners of the challenge, which means Trixie is coming back. Pearl wins a free website from Square Space. (That’s right, Square Space.) Katya, Kennedy, Violet and Miss Fame are safe. Jaidynn and Ginger are up for elimination. The teams have to lip synch for their lives together to the song “I Think We’re Alone Now.” Hi-freaking-larious. Ginger and Sasha have to perform an on-stage mastectomy to actually perform. Jaidynn and Tempest stay connected throughout.
Of course Ginger is safe. She cut off her own boob onstage to stay in the race. Jaidynn’s time is done. No shame, girl – you did a great job.
What did you think of bringing the eliminated contestants back? Are you going to check out The Prancing Elites Project on Oxygen later this week? Let’s have a ki-ki!
UPDATE: We’ve got the preview for episode 9 up now. Head on over if you want to see it!
Alaska and Shangela commentary!
I liked Miss Fame and Kandy Ho’s runway look. It may have been done before but they did it well.
Yay for Trixie coming back! Love her.
I liked it too – but yeah, I would’ve avoided plastic surgery as a theme just because it’s basic.
