Survivor recap episode 8: How did they not plan for an immunity idol?

Survivor: Second Chance recap “You Call, We’ll Haul,” Season 31, Episode 8 (original airdate Nov. 11): It’s day 20 and we’re down to 12. “Brilliant plan. Executed to perfection,” Andrew Savage tells Jeremy. He’s referring to voting off Kass. Their plan for the go forward  is to keep their alliance intact and stay the course picking off the Ciera’s, Abi’s and Wentworth’s. That, however, wouldn’t be the case.

Survivor episode 8Reward Challenge
Two teams of six were formed. They need to paddle and navigate a row boat, while grabbing some obnoxiously sized crates and then stack them in a puzzle pattern onshore. The winner gets a trip to the Survivor Café to enjoy iced coffee and cookies. Or as Jeff put it, an overdose on caffeine and sugar. Joe, Ciera, Wentworth, Wiglesworth, Kimmi and Keith’s team dominated the crate collection and got back to the beach first. It was a tight race to finish the puzzle but they pulled it off and won.

Survivor-episode-8-2While enjoying the reward Ciera starts to plant the seed on why now is the time to make a move. She reminds everyone that Savage, Jeremy, Tasha and Stephen are solid. Joe is with the Bayons (Savage and Jeremy) he claims, but will only be loyal for so long. Keith distracts the conversation by taking off on one of the Cambodian tut tuts. Love him.

The losers strategize, with Stephen leading the charge to vote Joe out. Savage loves Joe, he isn’t on board with that plan and spills everything to Joe.

survivor-episode-8-6Immunity Challenge
This one is familiar – Keith and Jeremy both played before. Jeremy was first out. Keith won during his season of Survivor. The challenge involved balancing a ball on a round disc attached to a rope. As the challenge progresses they need to move their hands farther down the rope, which make it more difficult to balance. Ciera, Wentworth and Wiglesworth are out almost immediately. Abbi, Stephen and Savage follow. After 10 minutes they move further back on the rope. Kimmi drops out, followed by Tasha. It’s down to Keith, Joe and Spencer. They drop back further on the rope. Spencer drops first.  After 30 minutes Keith and Joe have two balls on their boards. Joe wins.

Tribal Council
Joe and Savage want to vote out Stephen. Joe talks to Wentworth, she’s on board to vote for Stephen. Wentworth talks to Ciera she’s fine with Stephen. Jeremy’s not and changes that entire plan. Savage doesn’t like the plan but he’ll go along with respecting Jeremy on this one. The core group running the show (according to Ciera) is Jeremy, Savage, Tasha and Stephen or Joe. She makes another hard case to the others to make a move but no one listens. Wentworth plays her immunity idol and blindsides everyone!!! No one saw that coming and the nine Wentworth votes are voided. It was Savage who would go home, and Ciera, Abi and Wentworth get the credit. Ouch. He was devastated. A classy player, so it’s sad to see him go. As his torch got snuffed, Abi giddily offers, “at least you made it to the jury.” Not appreciated. Savage flips her off as he exits. How did they not think of a potential immunity idol and consider splitting the vote?

  1. There was absolutely no reason not to split the vote! 8 vs 3 a split would have made and idol void! They always split… This is clearly a fix. Pretty much done after this…

  2. 1. You forgot to strike off Peigi – voted off 3rd.
    2. Terry went home on the 5th episode – the same episode Monica was voted off.
    3. Andrew voted off in the latest – the eighth – episode.

    • Thanks for the note Joe! I updated my strikeouts. You are correct – Terry went home shortly after Monica was voted off, but it wasn’t shown until the next episode. I updated so it shows the day he went home vs. the episode.

    • Terry went home later the same night Monica was voted out (episode 5), but it wasn’t televised until episode 6 when Woo was voted out.

  3. I’m sorry to see Savage go, but Wentworth was brilliant. She found the idol in episode one, and decided right away to keep her mouth shut about it. Others have not been so smart. She didn’t tell anyone because no one can be trusted entirely. No one talked about idols much, so the group got too comfortable. Wentworth gave no indication that she felt safe, so the radar was off her entirely, and the others didn’t see the need to split the vote. That was the best play at tribal, and most satisfying to see an idol played for good reason. Although I wanted to see Ciara go home, I’m glad Wentworth’s idol was not wasted. Well done! I hope that Ciara and Abi-Marie don’t take any credit for this play. All Savage needed was Wentworth’s vote.

    • I’m glad we didn’t lose Ciera! Not only is she the hottest woman, she can move those eye balls like no one can.
