When is It’s a Wonderful Life on TV 2015?

You might recall the days of being able to watch It’s a Wonderful Life on TV a LOT. The 1946 Frank Capra classic was in the public domain at that time, about 20 or 30 years ago, and it seemed to air nearly nonstop in syndication between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For the past several years, rights to It’s a Wonderful Life have belonged to NBC, so airings of the film have become more of a special viewing occasion, with the network usually airing it twice during the Christmas season. And they are doing so again in 2015, with a few more showings also added to sister channel USA Network:

“IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” 2015 TV AIRINGS

USA Network: Sunday, Dec. 13 at 8pm; Monday, Dec. 14 at 1am; Sunday, Dec. 20 at 3:04pm ET/PT

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE — (FROM NBC) The NBC annual tradition continues as the iconic 1946 film once again returns to primetime. Directed by Frank Capra, “It’s a Wonderful Life” stars Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, a discouraged and despairing savings and loan manager who contemplates suicide before a guardian angel, Clarence (Henry Travers), intervenes and allows him to see what his small town of Bedford Falls would be without him — and all that is right in his world. The film, which earned Oscar nominations for best picture, director, actor and film editing, was produced and directed by Capra, and is based on the short story “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern. Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore also star.

  1. Yes I am somebody for years now and every year I have this movie and this year I have again.I so much wanted to see it this year please start showing it more often thanks

  2. I remember a few years ago we discovered that my sister-in-law had never seen It’s A Wonderful Life. So, we decided to throw a party themed to the movie and invited everyone over. My wife put flower petals on the buffet and even decorated a cake with a frosting picture of George “lassoing the moon!” After a good meal and a short announcement of my sentiments regarding this great Capra classic, we all watched together, savoring each scene and line as we have so many times before. My sister-in-law will speak of that wonderful Christmas evening often and has enjoyed the movie with her three daughters too. I must echo the same sentiment I have read here: this movie should air much more than it does. Do the right thing NBC.

    • I really enjoyed reading your email about “It’s a Wonderful Life.” What a great idea! So creative! This is probably my favorite Christmas movie. You are right. They should air it more during the holidays. I missed it!! Merry Christmas.

  3. I was looking for Its a wonderful life on TV listing only to discover I have missed them all except Christmas Eve showing (which I will also miss) …please show this movie more often.

    • I agree. Its a wonderful life is a big holiday tadition!!!!! It doesn’t feel like christmas unless I watch it. MORE PLEASE

      • I agree as well, It’s a wonderful life is a classic. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to watch it this year. I watch it every year. Please show this movie more often.

  4. Can’t find this movie anywhere. Glad it’s going to be played so I can record and share with my grandchildren. One of my favorites growing up. Wish that it was played more often. If networks can play “elf ” 20 times why not the classics?

    • “It’s a Wonderful Life” should be played much more during Christmas holidays! And, a few times during the year as you say. It’s message is ‘wonderful’ for the soul and as a movie it has it all plus lots of nostalgia!

  5. It is a shame that a movie of this caliber with this message of love and hope and charity is shown only once a year. NBC and every other network should share these sentiments with this not so nice world we live in today, more often

  6. I know everybody cannot afford to buy the movie….I myself bought the movie and watch it whenever I want to see it….I do believe that NBC could afford to air it more often though…for the kids of today so they can learn about real life.

  7. I’M A 61 YEAR OLD NANA AND MY HOLIDAY SEASON WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT THIS CLASSIC MOVIE !!!!!!

THE CRUEL WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY NEEDS THE MESSAGE DELIVERED IN THIS MOVIE !!!!!!

    • Im 53 nana and have watched this movie from the time i was like 8 or 9 with my nana .My boys watched when they were younger. Then my grandson who is 16 in a few weeks , now i have a 3 year old grandson that i would love to watch with , it is sad that they dont put it on more often. It wont be this year i can watch with Lyric my 3 year old so next year lets hope they show it like in “The Good Old Days”

    • So true, my Christmas is not complete till I watch, “It’s a Wonderful Life”! Jimmy Stewart is my all time favorite movie star, & I love visiting w him in this movie every year!

  8. NBC i thought you r mgmt was less crass. Its a Wonderful Life shpuld be shown constantly. Or at least severaltimes a week togive all who want to watch the opportunity. You are being as selfish with this movie as Scrooge himself. The stuff being shown adds so littlevalue to peoples lives today. This movie is of hope and love and persevering and families so. Please add additional airings and vow that next year it willbe available every day at some time on all your channels.
Our country needs this story of love and hope more thanever instead of sick humor and selfish desires
    Tha k you

  9. I love this show , it’s my all time favorite. I wish they would air it more during the Christmas season .

    NBC Air More Please!!

  11. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! Just wish we could go back to the day when it was aired a lot more. It sure beats seeing the crap that airs now…HANDS DOWN!!!!
