Corner the market: NASCAR returns to NBC July 4th weekend

NASCAR on NBC

In a short amount of time, NBC Sports has filled out its front row with the big three auto-racing leagues. NBCSN (then Versus) began its IndyCar coverage in 2009, then picked up Formula One rights starting in 2013. This month, NBC is back in the NASCAR game for the first time since 2006, effectively making its networks the top destinations for race fans and giving NASCAR a cross-promotional boost with NBC’s Sunday primetime NFL games. As part of a 10-year, $4.4 billion deal, NBC Sports airs the last 20 Sprint Cup races each season, including all of the Chase for … Continue reading

Denis Leary

Someone might as well stick us in a museum with a pole up our butts because we, like Johnny Rock, are fossils. Comedian and former Rescue Me star Denis Leary returns to FX in the new comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll as Johnny Rock, the drugged-out, aging frontman of early ’90s flash-in-the-pan punk band The Heathens. For nearly 25 years, he’s been living all of the rock star lifestyle with none of the fame or fortune. John Corbett costars as Flash, The … Continue reading

Haters gonna watch: Why do we keep turning on terrible TV shows?

Haters gonna watch: Why do we keep turning on terrible TV shows?

“IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T WATCH IT!” the Internet commenters scream via their keyboards. If only it were that simple. Someone pays me money to watch and write about terrible TV shows. What’s your excuse? Not that long ago, if a TV show was bad, people didn’t watch it and the show went away. But in today’s media culture, a bad TV show can thrive so long as it is bad enough that it becomes awesome in its badness. Thus is born the concept of “hate-watching.” Entertainment Weekly’s Darren Franich defines hate-watching as “the practice of watching a TV … Continue reading

A Deadly Adoption: Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime movie baby

A Deadly Adoption

A Deadly Adoption is a Lifetime movie about a man and his wife who welcome a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) into their home, planning to adopt her baby. Simple enough, right? But this isn’t your ordinary cookie-cutter Lifetime domestic-murder-mystery movie thriller. This is the “secret” Lifetime movie project from Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, which was “leaked” on April Fool’s Day and then abruptly canceled due to the leak. Well, A Deadly Adoption is back on, and it’s premiering on Lifetime Saturday, June 20, at 8pm ET/PT. Expect everything in this movie to be taken so seriously that it becomes … Continue reading
