Is Alaskan Bush People fake? Does it matter?

Alaskan Bush People Fake

“You do not choose Dance Moms,” Lori Acken once said. “It chooses you.” Lori writes brilliantly about top-flight shows with interviews of stars high atop the A list, yet she could not unburden herself of the Abby Lee Miller albatross. Her weekly recaps of a terrible show about generally unpleasant people were wildly successful, but I did not envy her. In early 2014, our editorial staff was looking for the next Dance Moms. We had success covering brand-new, somewhat obscure reality shows on cable networks (regrettably, no one cared about quality shows on the broadcast networks). The idea was to try … Continue reading

The series begins with an hourlong episode Sunday, March 1, at 9pm ET/PT then moves to its regular Sunday time period beginning March 8 at 8:30pm ET/PT. USA Network’s “DIG”: Jason Isaacs’ adventure in the making

Jason Isaacs DIG

DIG will finally see the light of day. The action/adventure miniseries set and partially filmed in Jerusalem was originally set to premiere in November, but violence in the region forced the production to relocate. The premiere was pushed to March, but the upside is that USA Network expanded the series order from six episodes to 10. DIG premieres on Thursday, March 5, at 10pm ET/PT on USA Network. From creators Gideon Raff (Homeland) and Tim Kring (Heroes), DIG has the epic, biblical and historical scope of films like The Da Vinci Code. “It is primarily a murder mystery,” Kring says. “As [it] … Continue reading

The Amazing Race Season 26: Now we’re getting desperate

The Amazing Race 26

The globe-trotting reality competition series The Amazing Race gets a new twist in Season 26, as all of the teams embarking on the journey are made up of dating couples, five of whom are on a “blind date.” It’s Season 26 (!) of The Amazing Race, a show in which all seasons have been exactly like the one that came before it. But in the 90-minute season premiere on CBS Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 9:30pm ET/PT, a dating-show element has been added with 11 teams made up of dating couples: six teams are preexisting couples, and five teams will see … Continue reading

Discovery Channel Alaskan Bush People recap: Now or Never

Alaskan Bush People

In the midseason finale of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People, “Now or Never” (Feb. 20), the Browns work on building the walls and roof of their house, but snow and setbacks threaten to derail the family’s hard work. I’ll live tweet the Bush People “Now or Never” episode tonight, since I had a great time last week and the Bush People Twitter Nation is a fun, vibrant community of hip cats. And this is apparently what I do with my Friday nights now. You don’t need to know anything about Twitter or even have an account to follow along. Just view … Continue reading
