Which kids’ shows really DESERVE an Emmy?

Yep — it's Daytime Emmy time!

This past Wednesday, the nominations went out for the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards, which is where a lot of the kids’ shows get recognized. The big event is set for June 25 in Los Angeles, and will be taped for broadcast on CBS June 27. Who comes out on top when it comes to kids’ programming? PBS handily takes a lead with 36 children’s programming-related nominations, followed by Nickelodeon with 25. Disney Channel narrowly edges out Cartoon Network‘s four nominations with five.

Not the strongest showing for the mighty Mouse, but with shows like The Suite Life and Wizards of Waverly Place among their more typical offerings, they’re arguably a little less focused on child development, which could be what gives PBS and Nickelodeon the edge. Looking at the [Read more →]

Tim Allen to host TV Land Awards

ENTER HULK 13 KRTMarch 30, 2010, Los Angeles, Calif. — TV Land announced today that Golden Globe® Award-winner and Emmy®-nominated actor and comedian, Tim Allen has been tapped to host the 8th Annual TV Land Awards that are scheduled to tape on Saturday, April 17 on the historic Stage 15 on the Sony Lot in Culver City.  The show premieres on Sunday, April 25 at 9pm ET/PT. Allen was previously honored last year, when his award-winning show, Home Improvement was given the Fan Favorite Award.

“Tim Allen is a versatile and hilarious performer who fits perfectly into the plans for this year’s TV Land Awards,” stated Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “We are thrilled to have him as our host this year.”

Tim Allen will next be heard reprising his role as Buzz Lightyear in the Disney/Pixar animated film Toy Story 3 scheduled for release on June 18, 2010. Allen was last seen on screen in his feature film directorial debut, the independent comedy Crazy on the Outside in which he starred opposite Ray Liotta and Sigourney Weaver. The film is scheduled to be released on DVD in April 2010. Allen honed his talents as a stand-up comic throughout the 1980s, providing the perfect lead-in to his very successful television series Home Improvement which ran for eight seasons on ABC. He made his film debut in 1994 in Disney’s The Santa Clause.

Honorees previously announced include the entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond who will reunite for this year’s TV Land Awards for the first time since the death of fellow cast member Peter Boyle to receive the Impact Award. This year’s Future Classic Award will be bestowed upon Fox’s runaway hit, Glee. Previous Future Classic recipients include Desperate Housewives and Arrested Development. Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles) and Carl Reiner (The Dick Van Dyke Show and Ocean’s Eleven) — the Renaissance Men of Comedy who started out on Your Show of Shows — will each receive the Legend Award.  This marks the first time that this award will be given to two recipients. Stars of the 1970s TV phenomenon Charlie’s Angels will be on hand to receive the Pop Culture Award and to pay tribute to their cast member Farrah Fawcett, who passed away from cancer in June 2009.

Now in its eighth year, the TV Land Awards celebrates classic and contemporary luminaries of television, music and movies. The 90-minute telecast will feature exhilarating musical performances and will reunite some of the most iconic celebrity TV casts.

TV Land Awards to honor casts of “Raymond,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Glee”

everybody-loves_07041March 15, 2010, Los Angeles, Calif. — TV Land announced today that legendary comedians Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner; the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond including Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts, Madylin Sweeten, Sawyer Sweeten and Sullivan Sweeten; Charlie’s Angels stars Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith and Glee cast members Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Jayma Mays, Jessalyn Gilsig and Kevin McHale are among the honorees at this year’s 8th Annual TV Land Awards with more talent to be announced soon. The gala is scheduled to be taped on Saturday, April 17, on the historic Stage 15 on the Sony Lot in Culver City.  The show premieres on Sunday, April 25 at 9pm ET/PT.

Legendary? — Neil Patrick Harris To Host Emmys

How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, after his successful gig hosting this year’s Tony Awards telecast, has been confirmed as host of the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards, CBS announced today. harris

“We already knew Neil as a fantastic actor and performer, but after blowing everyone away as host of this year’s Tony Awards, we couldn’t think of anyone better to emcee the television industry’s biggest award show,” said Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment.

“After having such a hoot hosting the Tonys,” said Harris, “I was thrilled to get the call about the Primetime Emmys. I’m looking forward to the challenge of the show — adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television. But which voice to choose? I’m torn between gangsta, foppish Brit, and robot. Really proud of my robot. We’ll see what happens on the night.”

This year’s Emmy Awards ceremony airs live Sept. 20 on CBS.

Daytime Emmy Award Nominations Announced

Nominations for the 36th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards were announced yesterday. PBS led the way with 56 nominations, followed by ABC with 50, syndicated shows with 49, CBS with 30, NBC with 20, Nickelodeon with 13, Disney Channel with 10 and Food Network with 10. Several other networks followed with single-digit nominations. The awards ceremony, hosted by Vanessa Williams, will air August 30 on The CW.

TV Land Awards To Honor Sid And Marty Krofft

Los Angeles, CA – April 14, 2009 — TV Land announced today that legendary producers Sid and Marty Krofft will receive the Pop Culture Award at the 2009 TV Land Awards, and Will Ferrell, star of the upcoming film Land of the Lost, Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, Jamie Lee Curtis and TV talk show host and psychologist Dr. Phil will be among the presenters at the evening’s celebration. “M*A*S*H,” “Married With Children” Among TV Land Awards Honorees

Los Angeles, CA – March 24, 2009 – TV Land announced today that it will pay tribute to M*A*S*H, Married With Children, Home Improvement, Magnum P.I., Knots Landing and Two and a Half Men at the 7th Annual TV Land Awards. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), the two-hour show will tape on Sunday, April 19 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City and will air on TV Land during a special presentation of TV Land PRIME on Sunday, April 26 at 8PM ET/PT.

All of this year’s honorees are cultural icons representing a cross-section of classic and modern television that viewers love.
