Bailee Madison returns to The Hub’s “Haunting Hour” with “Scarecrow”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH Even using the exaggerated standards befitting a precocious child actor, Bailee Madison can be said to have an extremely sunny disposition. The 12-year-old rising star is genuinely kind and courteous, immediately and effortlessly turning an over-the-phone interview into a real conversation. She emphasizes how important schoolwork is to her, despite her demanding acting schedule, and she even makes time to serve as a national spokesperson for the childhood-cancer charity Alex’s Lemonade Stand. So what’s this sweet little girl’s obsession with horror stories? Aside from terrifying audiences on the big screen in Don’t Be Afraid of [...]

TV Land continues winning sitcom formula in “The Exes”

TV Land continues winning sitcom formula in “The Exes”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH Kristen Johnston already has a plan should her new sitcom ever run into ratings trouble. “There is so much chemistry between myself and Donald Faison that I would imagine right before we’re canceled they’ll have us sleep together. I think that would be our jumping the shark moment,” says the statuesque funny lady, joking around about one of her latest costars. The truth is, there isn’t much reason to worry that The Exes, which debuts tonight at 10:30, will have trouble finding an audience. It’s the fourth original sitcom launched by TV Land, whose track [...]

“Super 8′s” Riley Griffiths has a mascot problem on “Haunting Hour”

“Super 8′s” Riley Griffiths has a mascot problem on “Haunting Hour”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH Having survived the big-budget blockbuster horrors presented in last summer’s Super 8,  Riley Griffiths is facing sinister forces yet again in his follow-up effort, an episode of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour that pits him against a malevolent mascot willing to resort to any means necessary to keep its station. That’s right. Not all those furry folks who tread the sidelines at football and basketball games are so friendly. In “Mascot,” Griffiths’ character Willie is repulsed by Big Yellow, his high school’s mangy dancing … whatever it is, and is convinced that installing a new [...]

NGC’s “Knights of Mayhem” explores the world of full-contact jousting

By Jeff Pfeiffer You’re probably familiar with the medieval sport of jousting, either through watching movies or seeing Renaissance fair performances. But did you know that there are groups of people who are diehard, modern-day practitioners of that activity? One of them is Charlie Andrews (pictured), who leads the Knights of Mayhem — a group that is the subject of National Geographic Channel’s new reality series Knights of Mayhem, premiering Nov. 15 with two episodes at 9pm and 10pm ET/PT. Charlie and his “knights” are hoping to put jousting on the global map while competing in various tournaments across the [...]

Stephen Root guest stars on “Fringe” with real-life wife Romy Rosemont

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH In the furor over how and when Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) will return to the Fringe universe, the show continues the strange journey of its fourth season tonight in an episode called “And Those We’ve Left Behind,” which features a guest spot by consummate character actor Stephen Root. The Office Space, NewsRadio and King of the Hill actor has played just about every role in just about every genre that’s out there, but one thing he hadn’t done was act alongside his wife, Romy Rosemont (Finn’s mom on Glee). Fringe, which is so good at [...]

[youtube 44W2s7W1P8U&feature=related] By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH After soaring onto movie screens this past summer, DC Comics superhero Green Lantern is preparing to defend another realm of entertainment when Green Lantern: The Animated Series premieres at 7pm Friday on Cartoon Network. His main companion is Kilowog, his old Lantern Corps drill sergeant, portrayed by voice-over stud [...]

Rockmond Dunbar is the new sheriff in town on “Sons of Anarchy”

Rockmond Dunbar is the new sheriff in town on “Sons of Anarchy”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH One of the many bright spots on this season of Sons of Anarchy has been the addition of Rockmond Dunbar as Deputy Sheriff Eli Roosevelt, a cop determined to take down SAMCRO, but who is not willing to break his principles to do it. It’s left his character caught in the middle between the criminals he’s trying to bring to justice, and the ruthless methods used by a federal attorney (Ray McKinnon) that put making the case above — far above — personal integrity. Roosevelt is perfectly willing to go into SAMCRO’s clubhouse and bust [...]

“Haunting Hour” gives Dylan Minnette a “Brush With Madness”

“Haunting Hour” gives Dylan Minnette a “Brush With Madness”

By Stacey Harrison Follow @ChannelGuideSRH I started my conversation with Dylan Minnette by telling him how much I hated his guts. And the young star took it as the compliment it was intended to be. We were on the phone to discuss Minnette’s turn in this week’s episode of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, where he plays the lead role in a nasty little ditty called “Brush With Madness.” But I had just finished ushering in Halloween a couple days earlier by rewatching Let Me In, the intense vampire story that features Minnette all-too-convincingly portraying a loathsome bully (link NSFW) [...]

Burt Reynolds to play himself on new season of “Archer”

Burt Reynolds to play himself on new season of “Archer”

When Archer returns for its third season in January, FX’s outrageous animated spy romp will count iconic actor Burt Reynolds among its guest stars. But in a twist, Reynolds will not be playing a fictional super spy, but himself in an episode titled “The Man From Jupiter.” (It’s a nod to Reynolds’ hometown of Jupiter, Fla., not the giant gas planet.) Archer creator Adam Reed says in a release that the person most thrilled with the announcement is his show’s main character, Sterling Archer. “Archer constantly tries to imitate Burt and always raves about Burt’s movies and all-around awesomeness. So [...]
