Posted by Sarah

After Peter and the gang watch Jackass and are inspired to new heights of jackassery, Brian has to save Peter from drowning in the river. In doing so, he hurts himself, and everyone attributes it to his getting old. Lois points out that when you figure in his drinking and smoking, Brian is 79 in human years. "E:60": Brian Kajiyama, The First Family Of Drag Racing And Missouri's Jeremy Maclin

Posted by Cubicle QB

E:60 Features on the Sept. 30 (7pm ET) edition of ESPN’s sports newsmagazine series E:60:

Brian Kajiyama’s “Heart of a Warrior”: Brian Kajiyama was born with cerebral palsy, which stripped him of his ability to speak and confined him to a wheelchair. However, his affliction has never been an impediment for the Hawaii native. Instead, it has propelled him to break as many barriers as possible. As a boy, he dreamed of playing football for the University of Hawaii Warriors. And while he knew this would never happen, Brian did become the team’s biggest fan. By the time he was a student at the university, he was not only at every home game but every practice, rain or shine, sitting in his wheelchair on the sidelines. Everything changed for Kajiyama in the summer of 2005 when a new coach for the Hawaii defense, Jeff Reinebold, noticed Brian watching practice and introduced himself. Reinebold and Brian developed a deep friendship and soon Brian was helping the Warriors prepare scouting reports on their opponents. In 2007, Kajiyama was named a graduate assistant football coach for the team by then-head coach June Jones and helped the Warriors go on to become the only undefeated team in Division I in the 2007 regular season. When June Jones and Jeff Reinebold accepted coaching positions at SMU in Dallas, Brian, now a doctorate student, thought he would continue as the team’s graduate assistant. All of that changed this fall when he was removed. E:60 correspondent Lisa Salters tells the story of Kajiyama’s “Heart of a Warrior.”

"My Name Is Earl" Season 4 Preview: The Legend Of Dan Coscino

Posted by Ryan

Earl

In advance of the Season 4 premiere of My Name Is Earl on NBC Sept. 25, NBC held a conference call for reporters with star Jason Lee and series creator Greg Garcia. I joined in, looking for the answer to a few burning questions:

Who is Dan Coscino? How did he get involved in this show and are we are going to see a lot more of him this season?

Greg Garcia: “Dan Coscino is a production assistant on the show and he’s worked — I’ve worked with him since Yes, Dear and he is a force. He is a force and he’s an amazing singer, and a talent. And we love him here. He’s part of our family and we’ve put him in the show a couple times and we enjoy him always wearing his Dan Coscino T-shirt. I think I saw him actually in an episode we have a table read of next week — he makes an appearance. So yes, by all means, there’ll be more Dan Coscino.”

Versus Stirs The Pot With "Sports Soup"

Posted by Cubicle QB

Sports SoupOne of the consistently funnier shows on cable is E!’s The Soup, wherein host Joel McHale gives viewers the weirdest and funniest moments from reality and talk shows and skewers them with witty commentary. I always thought this format would work well for a sports comedy show, and Versus thought so, too. On Oct. 14, Versus will debut Sports Soup with host Matt Iseman. This biweekly half-hour series will air Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10pm ET.

“This will be the Chad Johnson of sports shows — a little obnoxious, usually hilarious and so fascinating that you just won’t be able to take your eyes off it because you have to see what happens next,” said Matt Iseman. “Imagine having a friend that can watch hundreds of channels, 24 hours a day and then pull the best and worst moments to share with you. Sports Soup on VERSUS will be that friend, but we won’t drink all your beer.”

"E:60": Parkersburg, Iowa; A South Bronx Tale; And Turf 2 Surf

E:60Features on the Sept. 16 (7pm ET) edition of ESPN’s sports newsmagazine series E:60:

Touchdowns and Tornadoes — Parkersburg, Iowa, is a small rural town of 1,900 residents where high-school football is king. Despite its size, under the stewardship of head coach Ed Thomas, the football program has produced four current NFL players (Jacksonville Jaguar Brad Meester, Detroit Lion Jared Devries, Denver Bronco Casey Weigmann and Green Bay Packer Aaron Kampman). When the town was hit by a tornado on May 25, the community rallied around its coach to get the Aplington-Parkersburg High School football field ready to host the school’s Sept. 5 home opener. ESPN reporter Steve Cyphers and E:60 follow the story of football and the rebirth of a small town from the devastation of a tornado.  It includes the return of all four NFL players to their hometown, gripping footage of the tornado, and Aplington-Parkersburg High School football players digging graves to bury some of the six residents killed in the tornado. The story also takes the viewer inside the locker room on Sept. 5 as coach Thomas, for whom the field is named, gave a stirring pre-game speech before his team convincingly won their home opener 53-20.
