Getting “Lost”: “The Incident” Review

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

Going into last night, we felt we had a pretty good grasp of what was going on in the Lost universe. This morning? Not so much. It appears that the dynamic of the show is going to change once again — and not just in a “hey, we’re going to start seeing flash-forwards instead of flashbacks” kind of way. The series began with a power struggle between Jack and Locke, which then escalated to Widmore vs. Ben. Well, the undercard seems to be over, and now we get the title fight: Jacob vs. … some new guy in a black shirt who may be Jacob’s brother and might be named Esau. (Read the Bible, people. Or at least Wikipedia.)

There’s sort of a Trading Places vibe going on, with Jacob continuing to summon people to the island, knowing full well that they will fight one another and die. He seems to see it as an experiment in human nature, but it only pisses off black shirt guy — or Mortimer to Jacob’s Randolph. And this time, the stakes seem bigger than a measly dollar. But enough about the Duke brothers. Let’s read what johnnysweeptheleg has to say.

Getting “Lost”: The Incident Preview

By Mike and johnnysweeptheleg

It’s almost here. If you’re like us, you can’t wait for the Season 5 finale of Lost to begin but you’re also dreading what happens when it ends, which is roughly eight straight months with no new episodes. In other words, this had better be a damn good last two hours (three, if you count the hourlong Lost: A Journey in Time recap that precedes the finale — which we don’t).

Here’s what ABC is saying about “The Incident”: Jack’s decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him, and Locke assigns Ben a difficult task.

Keeping in mind that a new character of major importance will supposedly be introduced this week, guest stars for “The Incident” include [Read more →]

Getting “Lost”: Follow The Leader Review

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

It may be a little too late to help, but we’re going to begin this week with some basic information regarding the year 1977. Jimmy Carter is the current president of the United States, Fleetwood Mac has just released the album Rumours, Roots is the TV event of the year, Elvis Presley is going to die — and Hurley cannot pass for 46 years old. Remind us never to take the big guy back in time with us. Not only is he fairly conspicuous because of his size, but dude cracks under pressure big time. Having said that, his scene with Dr Pierre Chang/Marvin Candle was the highlight of a pretty damn good episode of Lost last night. Here’s the recap.

johnnysweeptheleg’s Lost in a Moment:

Daniel Faraday has been shot in the back by his own mother, so things are already looking grim for the team even before Jack gets Charlton Heston’d by a horse-riding ape Charles Widmore. But after going through her son’s journal, Eloise is suddenly receptive to anything. Jack explains to Kate and Eloise that if they do exactly what’s in the book, they can undo all of this. Eloise seems poised to try this. And it reminds me to try using this same explanation, only with a copy of the Kama Sutra in hand, next time I am on that island.

Getting “Lost”: Follow The Leader Preview

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

It’s the second-to-last Lost of the season. With only “The Incident” Parts 1 & 2 to follow next week, we should be in for quite a ride tonight. Last week, we were on the verge of getting some major answers, but those likely died along with Daniel Faraday. We mean, he is dead … right?

As for what to expect tonight, here’s the official word from ABC: Jack and Kate find themselves at odds over the direction to take to save their fellow island survivors, Locke further solidifies his stance as leader of “The Others,” and Sawyer and Juliet come under scrutiny from the Dharma Initiative.

Getting “Lost”: The Variable Review

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

Think you have issues with your parents? Try being Daniel Faraday. Not only does his mother force him to quit playing piano in order to focus on physics, but she and his father — who just might be the most evil dude in the Lost universe — conspire to send him to an island where he will be killed … by her. Most moms just make their kids eat broccoli and stop slouching. Then again, very few of the parents on Lost will be contending for a Mother or Father of the Year award any time soon …

johnnysweeptheleg’s “Lost” in a Moment:

Welcome back, Twitchy! Which is more surprising — that Faraday is back on the island or that Dharma’s headquarters can be found in Ann Arbor, Michigan, of all places?

It feels like Faraday’s on The Amazing Race. He’s on the run the entire episode. First, spending 17 seconds by Jack, waking him up to notify him that Eloise was wrong about this being their destiny, but not staying long enough to hear Jack explain the wild dream he had last night involving Kate, Juliet and the Smoke Monster’s younger sister, who is, you guessed it, smokin’ hot.

Getting “Lost”: Some Like It Hoth Review

By johnnysweeptheleg and Mike Frey

Last night’s episode worked like a game of chess, as the island lost some pawns and more pieces were moved into place for a future battle. We seem to be getting closer and closer to that war we’ve heard so much about.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait two weeks until we get a new episode and, hopefully, the answers to more questions. Next week’s episode is one of those “clips” shows.

Enough about the future, let’s flashback to yesterday …

johnnysweeptheleg’s Lost in a Moment:

After three years, Miles finally makes his way into the “Circle of Trust.” Unfortunately, it appears it’s a circle full of jerks.

With Sawyer incommunicado, Horace is forced to entrust Miles with a delivery. He’s told to go directly to Grid 334. Do not pass Go. Do not ask any questions. Simply trade items with Radzinsky and move on. But Radzinsky is always stressed and complainy, so it’s bound to be more hassle than it’s worth. The “it” in this case, is a body that Radzinsky needs taken to Dr. Chang at The Orchid.

Getting “Lost”: Some Like It Hoth Preview

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

It’s a week later and we’re still not over Ben’s emo bangs, but it’s time for a new episode so we move on. This one’s called “Some Like It Hoth,” which could be a reference to this, this, this guy or even this. Or maybe Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are just Led Zeppelin fans. We don’t know much about what to expect, other than that it should be revealed how and/or why Miles hears dead people. Perhaps it’s just best if we defer to those in the know.

Here’s what ABC says about “Some Like It Hoth”: “Suspicions about a possible breach intensify after Ben is taken from the infirmary, and a reluctant Miles is forced to work with Hurley when he’s asked to deliver an important package to a top Dharma official.” Guest stars include: Francois Chau as Dr. Pierre Chang, Marsha Thomason as Naomi Dorrit, Doug Hutchison as Horace Goodspeed, Patrick Fischler as Phil, Jon Gries as Roger Linus, Eric Lange as Radzinsky, Leslie Ishii as Lara, Brad William Henke as Bram, Dean Norris as Howard Gray, Tim DeZarn as Trevor, Lance Ho as young Miles and Linda Rose Herman as Evelyn.

Getting “Lost”: Dead Is Dead Review

By Mike Frey and johnnysweeptheleg

Last night’s episode, “Dead Is Dead,” presented us with the most frightening phenomenon we’ve seen yet on Lost — Ben Linus with emo bangs. A note for the show’s producers: combing Michael Emerson’s hair forward does not make us forget the fact that he is 55 years old. We’ve already seen three actors portray Charles Widmore. What would have been the harm in hiring someone to bridge the gap between frail young Ben and creepy old Ben? There are plenty of twentysomething actors out there.

Anyway, the other big news is that, contrary to what you might have read, johnnysweeptheleg will continue to cowrite these Lost posts, at least through the end of this season. So, without further ado …

johnnysweeptheleg’s Lost in a Moment:

Boy, throw some classy clothes on Locke, and suddenly he thinks he’s running the joint. I’m not sure if Ben’s more surprised to awake to the image of Locke alive or just finally not wearing that damn dirty white t-shirt.

Getting “Lost”: Dead Is Dead Preview

By Mike Frey

Johnnysweeptheleg has left the building. Where is he? Probably the same place Rose and Bernard have gone. Like the island’s favorite married couple, johnny will likely pop up again sometime — probably in the comments section — but, until then, I’ll be doing these Lost posts like Eric Carmen. That’s right … all by myself. So bear with me.

With that said, let’s talk about this week’s episode. Here’s what ABC has to say about “Dead Is Dead”: To atone for sins of the past, Ben must attempt to summon the smoke monster in order to be judged. Guest stars include Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Tania Raymonde as Alex, Sonya Walger as Penelope “Penny” Widmore, Alan Dale as Charles Widmore, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Sterling Beaumon as young Ben, Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana, Said Taghmaoui as Caesar, Melissa Farman as young Danielle Rousseau, Brad William Henke as Bram and Matt Hoffman as Jed.
