Haley slugs Renee in this week's "OTH"

by haro1d

It had to wait, but here’s the synopsis of Monday’s One Tree Hill for those of you still following this series to its death. Is the show really so much more anemic without Lucas and Peyton? It’s really hard to tell, from this writer’s perspective. But here’s more evidence for you to mull over in the meantime:

As the episode opens, Nathan is standing on the pier overlooking the water. Clay approaches him — he’s been missing training and is worried about both his contract and the trouble with Renee, the woman who’s blackmailing him.

At the grocery store, Quinn, Haley and Jamie are shopping for cereal. Haley asks Quinn about what’s going on with her and David. He wants her back, but she says she needs more time to figure things out. When Jamie presents a box of bran flakes, Haley approves, but Quinn makes Jamie put it back. When Haley says that the cereal has everything he needs, Quinn counters that it may have everything one needs, but not everything one wants. (I applaud the allegorical use of cereal in this instance, btw.)

It’s Brooke’s big day for her fashion show. At home, while he’s burning a [Read more →]

“One Tree Hill” will never die … will it? (Part 3)

ONE TREE HILLThe plot thins on One Tree Hill. Last night’s episode was a bit of a filler (though for you Lucas/Peyton fans, they all feel that way now, right?), but it was filler with at least some purpose. It stood to reason that after Lucas and Peyton left the show, something dramatic would have to happen in the lives of Nathan, Haley and Jamie — it’s been way too happy in that household for way too long. Here’s the breakdown of events as they unfurled:

The opening montage: Haley is in the kitchen, looking at the photographic evidence — the ultrasound and the pics of Nathan at the party where he met the extortionist. We see Brooke running out of the house, telling Julian that she loves him. Over at Skills’ and Mouth’s pad, Skills gets out of bed, disrobes to get into the shower and, closing the bathroom door, screams at something Mouth obviously set up to freak him out. (Immediately planning his revenge, he asks himself who to turn to when it’s life or death — and he dials for Jamie Scott. Awww …) Just as Millie comes to Alex’s room to get her out of bed for the photo shoot she’s supposed to do, Alex stumbles into bed after a night out partying. Millie threatens her half-million-dollar fee, and Alex rises to the occasion … but is determined to be incredibly difficult all the way.

At work, Mouth’s editor tells him that a friend saw Nathan’s outburst at [Read more →]

Holy socks — how many alleged affairs can one person have before hisONE TREE HILL wife finally tosses him over? Looks like we’re headed down that road again on One Tree Hill. Read on:

The episode begins with what looks like some sort of Victorian soap opera. As it turns out, Brooke is watching the dailies of some unfinished film of Julian’s, looking for the face of her new line’s promotional campaign. Julian carps that he had to call in many favors to get access to the dailies.

Running on the beach are Nathan and Clay, and Nathan is in a panic about the woman who seems determined to destroy his marriage and life. Clay reassures Nathan to leave dealing with the situation up to him, and to focus on his game.

Poolside at Nathan and Haley’s house, Haley and Quinn continue to discuss what changed with her husband that led to her leaving him. Haley isn’t getting it, saying that they were really good together, but Quinn just isn’t feeling it.

The naked standoff continues. At Mouth and Skills’ apartment, they [Read more →]

ONE TREE HILLWe’re in new territory. The new season of One Tree Hill without Lucas and Peyton started last night. How’d it go? Read on …

The episode opens with Dan Scott on the screen, talking about how, on the eve of his son’s first NBA game, he was sitting outside contemplating the death that was stalking him and supposed to claim him in a matter of days. He says that that was 14 months ago, and he’s still going on. (So we know, at this point, how much later the series is picking up. And yes, it’s noticeable how much older everyone is getting.)

The CW Announces Fall Season Schedule

by Karl J. Paloucek

Whether The CW is playing it safe in this troubled economy or it’s just basing its new work on its current successes (I’d like to think the latter, though it’s probably a bit of both), for you fans of the young-adult-skewed network, it doesn’t matter. All you need to know is to expect more of the same. In 2009, its cult-of-beauty lineup expands in some VERY familiar directions. Among the new shows announced:

Melrose Place
(Tuesdays, 9pm ET/PT)
Yep, it’s happening. Not only has The CW succeeded in reinventing Beverly Hills, 90210 with its own version, now the network will complete the classic, early ’90s FOX lineup by pairing its 90210 with its reimagined sister show, Melrose Place. Fitting closely in the tradition of other CW series like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and, of course, 90210, the series focuses on the lives of “a diverse group of 20-somethings” who have become a tight-knit group while living together in a posh apartment building in the trendy Melrose neighborhood. Among the talent lined up for the show are returning cast members in Laura Leighton, still playing Sydney Andrews — the landlady of the building — and Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini, but likely much of the buzz is going to be centered on the casting of Ashlee Simpson Wentz as 18-year-old new tenant Violet Foster, who has a secret connection to scheming landlady Sydney. Wouldn’t it be fun if the show [Read more →]

“One Tree Hill”: The Slippery Slope NEVER ENDS 23

by haro1d

It’s all over.

Well, not really, but this year’s chapter is. The Season Finale for One Tree Hill aired last night, and truth be told, it easily could have been a series finale. Nearly every one of the OTH gang reached a point of resolution … except for Dan Scott, who still has a way to go. This time, things opened with a summary “montage” such as is usually found at the end of each OTH episode. It went something like this:

Lucas is at the hospital. After delivering Peyton to the emergency ward, he washes his bloody hands and sees the pinkish, bloody water swirl down the drain and probably wonders if that’s what’s happening to Peyton and their life together. Then he goes to watch Peyton in the operating theater.

Cut to Haley, who wakes in the middle of the night to see that Nathan isn’t at home … he’s out on the river court drinking from a whiskey bottle, drowning his sorrows in booze.

We see Julian walk into Clothes Over Bros looking for Brooke but finding Victoria. He tells her he loves Brooke, and tells Victoria to deliver the message to call her. [Read more →]

“One Tree Hill”: The Slippery Slope … Gets MORE Slippery

by Karl J. Paloucek

Yep, it’s official: Lucas and Peyton will not be returning to One Tree Hill next season. Rumors had been swirling around for a while, especially after a video surfaced of OTH star Chad Michael Murray telling fans that he wasn’t being brought back for Season 7 “because they want to save money.” But now, according to a CW rep, it’s a done deal — Murray and costar Hilarie Burton will not be back for next season.

Of course, all of this is a well-engineered publicity stunt ramping up to Monday’s season finale. Usually, a season or series finale in a show like this would lead up to the wedding — but the long-awaited (or dreaded, depending on your perspective) wedding of Lucas and Peyton came and went with surprising speed, which all but ensured that there would be SOME sort of dramatic twist. I don’t think it was a surprise to anyone, really, when Peyton started hemorrhaging after they got back from the wedding. Something terrible had to happen, or there would have been nowhere to go for next week’s finale.

So let the speculation begin:

“One Tree Hill”: The Slippery Slope NEVER ENDS 22

by haro1d

If you missed it, chances are you’re not going to want a synopsis from me — you’re going to want to actually see last night’s One Tree Hill, as it was the Peyton/Lucas wedding episode. As such, I’ll try to keep the details in check a bit here, so I don’t spoil the event TOO much for you.

Here goes:

Things are going wrong with the wedding right from the get-go — the minister can’t make it, even as the chairs are set up, the arbor is in place and there are flower petals all over. Haley mentions to Lucas something about oneminuteminister.com, and he pulls out his phone, and before she’s even finished describing the service, he’s had her ordained — which means Haley will officiate the ceremony and sign the legal documents for the happy couple.

At the wedding, Skills has Jamie on a tether and harness so he won’t get away. (He does, anyway, leaving Skills with a dog at the end of the leash.)

Brooke fits Peyton’s dress, and as they talk and get all sentimental on each other, Peyton tells Brooke that if anything happens, she wants Brooke to take care of Lucas. They start crying, telling each other that they love each other and things take an almost borderline-inappropriate turn.

“One Tree Hill”: The Slippery Slope NEVER ENDS 21

by haro1d

Last night was probably as close as we’ve had to a filler episode for a while, but enough happened that I’d hesitate to designate it as such. All the same, it’s been a while since we’ve seen the miserable specimen of humanity that is Dan Scott, and I’m starting to get concerned … but not really. He’ll surface in the cauldron to make things all bitter again soon enough.

Here’s how it all went down last night:

Fade in on Peyton, by herself, making a video for her and Lucas’ baby, in the event that she shouldn’t survive the birth. Among the important life lessons she tries to condense into this crucial few minutes of parenting, she includes having the right playlist, leaving baby an iPod with 100 songs to live by — because everybody needs music to get through tough things like breakups and school and stuff. She gives words of advice on choosing a best friend, citing Brooke Davis as a role model, because she always puts her friends first. Nathan and Haley get the nod for being potential ersatz mom and dad, and then Peyton entreats baby to take care of Lucas, because he’s going to need him/her. Then Lucas walks in. And he’s mad — he doesn’t want to do anything like this just because things MIGHT go bad. Peyton counters that she wants to get married. Now. Again, Lucas executes the smackdown, saying that he doesn’t want to do anything “just in case.” [Read more →]
