Project Runway: Lights, Camera, Sew! Recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet

One of the more consistent elements of Project Runway is the idea that creating a costume is a kiss of death. Project Runway is not about costumes — it’s about couture. Costumes are what children wear on Halloween or budding community theatre girls wear to prom. Costumes have no place on the runway.

So, by all means, let’s base an entire episodes challenge around making a costume. Or using the idea of a costume to influence a high-fashion piece. That distinction is never made clear in this latest episode of Project Runway, and it’s a darn shame. I have a feeling things would’ve turned out differently if the designers were more clear on what they were creating. I know I as a viewer would’ve felt better about what I was watching. “Project Runway”: Fashion Headliners recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet

Project Runway continues down the slide of mediocrity. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying AGAIN no Nina Garcia or Michael Kors. The only excitement in this episode happened on the judging runway when Heidi almost clapped upon hearing 2 designers squabble with each other.

I can understand our beloved judges having something else going on & having to miss a week. Maybe two. But when Project Runway switched networks, Lifetime reassured us that the show would remain the same. The judges would be the same; the only change would be moving the location to LA. That has not been the case from the first episode.

But I, as I assume you do too, still watch it, hoping for what used to be. *Sigh* [Read more →]

“Project Runway”: What a woman wants recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet

Not Nina Garcia or Michael Kors. Disappointed!

Not Nina Garcia or Michael Kors. Disappointed!

Project Runway, why are you doing this to us? Why did you assure us, cajole us, soothe us, into thinking that this season on Lifetime and in LA would be JUST LIKE previous seasons on Bravo in NY? And why, oh why did I believe you?

Because I wanted to, Project Runway. Because I wanted to. [Read more →]

“Project Runway”: Rumble on the Runway recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet

pr6-ep3-10This episode starts off by reminding me Mitchell is still around. Why, Project Runway, why? Ra’mon is also featured prominently at the beginning of this episode, which tells me he’ll be featured prominently throughout the episode. Reality TV 101!

Heidi teases the designers, telling them they’re going on a field trip & they need sunscreen. So, of course they’re going to the beach. Tim Gunn is in flip-flops & a blazer to introduce the surf wear challenge. So, our Project Runway contestants have to all turn into Ed Hardy douchebags. The hair is supposedly very important, so says the Garnier dude, seen with Tim to the left. Hey, Garnier dude, I’m watching Project Runway, not Blow Out, so I really don’t care about the hair. I will, however, listen to you record ‘Hickory, Dickory Doc’ & get weepy about it. That’s good TV.

This is our first team challenge — teams of two. There’s all the drama of who is going to pick whom. Poor, poor Ra’mon gets selected by Mitchell. Mitchell admits he wants someone to carry him. Nice Mitchell. Nice. Ra’mon rightly thinks he’s got a bulls-eye on his chest. [Read more →]

Project Runway Expects Fashion

by Ruth Anne Boulet

This season of Project Runway just can’t escape that dated 2008 feeling. Last week it was the Emmy red carpet. This week’s challenge is to make a pregnancy outfit for Rebecca Romijn. Her twins have since been born … in 2008. It’s bizarre that the producers are hanging their challenges on events & occurrences that have very specific dates. I know in the minds of producers, this season was going to start airing in January 2009, but legal matters don’t always wrap up when one expects them to. I’m surprised they haven’t tried any of the timeless challenges like making s*** out of candy. Dates be damned! I want to see Mychael Knight make something out of coffee filters! [Read more →]

Back On The Runway: Project Runway Kicks Off Season 6 With An All-Star Challenge

sebelia_rice_web2For the first time in Project Runway history, eight former fan favorites and Project Runway superstars are returning to the catwalk to compete against one another in the two-hour special, Project Runway: All-Star Challenge. The spirited competition premieres Thursday, August 20, at 8PM ET/PT and will be followed by the highly anticipated premiere of the sixth season of Project Runway at 10PM ET/PT and the debut of the all-new companion series, Models of the Runway, at 11PM ET/PT. The announcement was made today by Lifetime Television and The Weinstein Company.

At stake for the designers are not only the ultimate bragging rights, but also a $100,000 cash prize. Will the designers be up to the challenge of returning to the workroom, working under the “Gunn” (as in Tim Gunn) to create a successful fashion line? Are they ready to, once again, face the critiques of Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, as they showcase their creations?

The designers competing in Project Runway: All-Star Challenge are as follows:
Daniel Vosovic, Season 2
Santino Rice, Season 2
Jeffrey Sebelia, Season 3
Uli Herzner, Season 3
Mychael Knight, Season 3
Chris March, Season 4
Sweet P, Season 4
Korto Momolu, Season 5

Lifetime Is Back On The (Project) Runway This Summer

By ButtonKnows

Aw, like you need another reason to look forward to summer. Well, how about two of ‘em?

Just when its fans — and even its hosts — were losing hope that the long-wrapped sixth season of Project Runway would ever be cleared for takeoff on its new Lifetime Network home, NBC Universal, The Weinstein Co. and Lifetime jointly announced today that they have settled the lawsuit that threatened the show’s future, and that of a planned spin-off, Models of the Runway.

Under the terms of the settlement, The Weinstein Co., which produces the show, will pay NBC Universal an undisclosed amount to release its interests in Runway, clearing the way for a summer Lifetime premiere.

Project Runway Comes to a Fabulous Close

by Ruth Anne Boulet

So this is the episode that declares it all — who will the winner of this season of Project Runway be? Well, if it’s not Leanne, I’ll eat my hat. But I’ve got about 58 minutes until I know for sure. Then I’ll be able to flip over to America’s Next Top President.

Hey, and why did we not get a recap/let’s rip on everyone episode? I mean, yeah, it’s a cheesy reason to have a clip show, but we also got to hear what designers REALLY thought of each other. In a very TV sort of way. And we get to find out who the Fan Favorite winner is. We’ll see how they handle that this year.

Tim has 2 important announcements — the designers have to cut 2 pieces as they’ll only be showing 10 pieces on the runway. And secondly, they have to go cast models.

Kenley likes to tell the other designers who they should pick, which Leanne finds annoying. I can’t imagine why.

Tim gives the designers a final once-over, starting with Kenley. She gives massive attitude to him. He’s only trying to remind her that the piece she puts her main model in will be in front of the judges again. Apparently she doesn’t find that reminder helpful. Korto and Leanne need to figure out what to cut, and in the end Kenley sees Tim’s point.

Korto decides that since the judges hated her wedding dress and bridesmaid dress, she will remake them. Now. Korto is pretty much insane. Then it’s time to meet with Collier Strong of L’Oreal. Yay makeup!

Korto is freaking out because she’s got so much work to do, and so little time to do it. Wow, did you think you wouldn’t have a lot of work to do in these last 2 days before the runway show?

Time for Tresemme hair consultation! The stylist declares a big attachable bun as ‘hot.’ I recently saw a video of myself with a bun in college. Hot was not the word that came to mind. Maybe it was the tie too. [Read more →]

Project Runway Draws to a Close Part 1

by Ruth Anne Boulet

The designers are told that they have to incorporate a wedding dress into their line. Korto’s supposedly mad about that. She thought the challenges were over. Ok, Korto, have you seen Project Runway before?

And off our designers go, with 2 months and $8,000 to put together magic.

Korto lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. She’s working in a rented space in a park. It’s a great workspace — set in a wooded area with tons of windows. Tim likes what he sees so far, so it’s time to meet the family & friends. Korto even does a drum performance for Tim. She was born in Liberia and had to leave during the civil war. That background makes her a fighter. Korto came up with the following collection:

Leanne is in Portland. I’ve never been there, but I’ve been to Seattle, and I love the climate out there. Tim’s concerned about some of the stark white pieces in her collection. But, enough about concerns, let’s go for a bike ride! Leanne takes Tim on a bicycle built for two through the park. Isn’t that cute? She should be wearing a helmet if she doesn’t want severe head trauma, but who am I to be a Negative Nancy about a jaunty ride through the park? I’m just saying smart Tim Gunn wore a helmet. And Leanne really should wear a helmet, as if she doesn’t win, I’ll eat my hat:

L’Oreal Paris is Throwing Down a Project Runway Challenge

by Ruth Anne Boulet

Kenley thinks that Leanne tried to sabotage her by not selling her hip-hop outfit. So Kenley’s not going to talk to Leanne. So there. Jerell is officially starting to lose his mind, now that no other guys are left & he’s got the fabulous apartment to himself. He has a ‘conversation’ with a Tim Gunn bobblehead, an apple with a face on it, and a syrup bottle whose logo has been obscured so we have absolutely no idea what kind of syrup it is.

So Tim takes the designers to the botanical gardens for the next challenge. In the garden is Collier Strong, who’s here to tell the designers about the challenge. They are to make an evening gown, using nature as their muse. It’s kind of like last cycle’s museum challenge, only outdoors with flowers. But no Chris March, laughing in a big marble space. We do get Leanne ooged out about the bees. It’s ok, Leanne, bees are our friends. Unless you’re allergic. Kenley thinks the challenge is perfect for her. As she says this, the editors selected a close-up of a bee. Hmmm. Wonder why.

We’ve got 30 minutes to pick a flower & sketch what they’re going to do. Then it’s the flurry of shopping at Mood. I’m finding it interesting that Korto picked up a piece of ivory lace when her flower is a gradation of oranges and yellows. Nothing about it said lace to me. [Read more →]
