WACKED-OUT WOMEN:

TOP 5 FEMALE MOVIE PSYCHOS

Our last list looked at the top “mad men” in movies. But psychosis is an equal-opportunity offender, and the ladies can go off the deep end once in a while, too, as these notable films have shown us. “Sugar and spice and everything nice” is not part of the basic makeup of these naughty girls, who can do the work of “crazy” just as well as — if not better than — any man:

MAD MEN:
TOP 5 MOST PSYCHO MOVIE PSYCHOS

They’re intelligent, well-spoken, in some cases highly educated, successful and good-looking. Unfortunately — and sorry to throw scientific jargon at ya — they are wicky in the wacky woo. Therapy is going absolutely nowhere for these guys, so they need to unleash their tensions in some rather unhealthy (for other people) ways:

THE THRILL IS GONE:

TOP 5 WAYS A HORROR FRANCHISE “JUMPS THE SHARK”

If familiarity breeds contempt, than filmmakers obviously must make us too familiar with certain film franchises, particularly horror ones, since plenty of them have degenerated to the point of tarnishing the often scary original concepts and PO-ing fans. Whether turned over into the hands of new — and inferior — creative teams, trying conceptual and technological gimmicks, or just overstaying their welcomes, these horror film series lost their power to thrill long ago:

IT SLICES, IT DICES!
TOP 5 MOST SADISTIC SLASHERS

A large collection of violent deaths certainly isn’t strictly the domain of horror films — go watch Commando or Rambo II to see Arnie and Sly mow down bad guys by the dozens, if not hundreds. But the deaths found in “slasher films” tend to be so spectacularly horrific that they remain more memorable. And there are certain slashers who stand head and shoulders (and arms and legs and other body parts) above the rest. Here they are in order of body count, not necessarily by scare factor:

SCARED SPEECHLESS:
TOP 5 SILENT HORROR FILMS

Don’t be scared off by the fact that these films are old, in black and white, and without sound. Instead, be very scared of their brilliantly horrific content:

DRAWING ON OUR FEARS:
TOP 5 MOST UNNERVING ANIMATED SEQUENCES

From their outset, cartoons haven’t always been for the kiddies. And even the ones that are often have their scary moments (see Bambi, Dumbo, Pinocchio, The Lion King, et al). We could fill up a page with such famous traumatic Disney moments alone, but believe it or not there are even more disturbing moments brought to life through ink and paint:

Scariest Scary Movie #24 – Last House on the Left

Last House on the Left (1972, Sandra Cassel, Lucy Grantham, David Hess)

Repeat this to yourself: It’s only a movie. It is not a snuff film. It’s just a movie…

Quick Plot: Three escaped convicts kidnap and brutalize two teenage girls. After their murderous lust is sated, the bad guys seek refuge in a nearby suburban home – the last house on the left. The unsuspecting owners, who are anxiously waiting for their daughter and her friend to arrive home, invite the group to spend the night. When the parents realize the truth, they exact a merciless revenge.

Scariest Scene: The torture scenes are graphic and hard to watch. The revenge scenes are classic.

Final Say: Wes Craven’s first film may just be the most disturbing movie ever made.
