2010 Little League World Series TV schedule

By Ryan Berenz

Held every August since 1947, the Little League World Series brings baseball players ages 11-12 from around the world to South Williamsport, Pa., to compete for the world championship. Pared down from a field of 16 teams (eight from the U.S. and eight international), the U.S. finalists take on the international finalists at Howard J. Lamade Stadium today for the title game. ABC airs the game live in front of a national audience, which might seem like a lot of pressure for some youngsters to handle. Last year saw the team from Chula Vista, Calif., beat the team from Taoyuan County, Chinese Taipei, 6-3. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC combine to televise the games. Here’s the release and schedule from ESPN:

ABC, ESPN & ESPN2 Combine to Deliver Every Little League World Series Game

U.S., International and World Series Championships on ABC

ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to present every game (up to 34) of the Little League World Series Presented by Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Reduced Sugar from Williamsport, Pa., Aug. 20-29.  ABC – entering the network’s 48th consecutive year of Little League World Series coverage – will broadcast the International Championship on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m., the United States Championship on Aug. 28 at 4 p.m., and the Little League World Series Championship on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m.  Every World Series game on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 will be available in high definition for the sixth straight year.  All ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts will be simulcast via ESPN3.com, with nearly all games available on ESPN Mobile TV.

Where to watch the 2010 PGA Championship

By Ryan Berenz

The year’s final major takes place along the shore of Lake Michigan at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., site of the PGA Championship in 2004. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els and golf’s best will try to win the Wanamaker trophy and end the season on a high note. Last year’s PGA Championship was a stunner, with unheralded Y.E. Yang of Korea outplaying runner-up Tiger Woods in the final round for a three-stroke victory. It was a rare loss for Woods — he lost for the first time in 15 major championships when he had the lead or share of the lead after 54 holes. It was also the first time since 2004 that Woods went winless in the four majors. With Woods coming off the worst performance of his pro career, it’s likely that he’ll go winless in the majors for another year. TNT and CBS share coverage of this year’s PGA Championship Aug. 12-15. Full coverage details and releases from CBS, TNT and GOLF CHANNEL after the jump. Here’s the live tournament schedule on TNT and CBS:

PGA Championship Live TV Schedule
Thursday, Aug. 12 — First Round, 1pm ET, TNT
Friday, Aug. 13 — Second Round, 1pm ET, TNT
Saturday, Aug. 14 — Third Round, 11am ET, TNT; 2pm ET, CBS
Sunday, Aug. 15 — Final Round, 11am ET, TNT; 2pm ET, CBS

Where to watch the 2010 British Open golf tournament

By Ryan Berenz

Golf’s third major tournament of the year, the British Open, returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. St. Andrews, perhaps the most sacred ground in all of golf, first hosted the Open in 1873, and will host the tournament for the 28th time. Golf’s best, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker and 2009 Open champion Stewart Cink compete for the famed Claret Jug. Last year’s Open provided plenty of drama as five-time Open champ Tom Watson, at age 59, made an incredible run but was denied when Cink defeated him in a four-hole playoff. ESPN now airs all four rounds of the Open (it shared coverage with ABC in the past) as part of an eight-year exclusive rights deal.

Complete schedule and details from ESPN:

ESPN to Present Complete-Round Coverage of The Open Championship from St. Andrews

For the first time, ESPN will present live complete-round coverage of The Open Championship, celebrating its 150th anniversary, from St. Andrews Royal & Ancient Golf Club in Fife, Scotland, July 14-18. ESPN’s live Open Championship coverage will be televised Thursday, July 15, and Friday, July 16, from 4 a.m.-3 p.m. ET; Saturday, July 17, from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 18, from 6 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  Live coverage will also be available via ESPN3.com and ESPN Mobile TV.  ESPN Deportes will televise The Open Championship Thursday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens look for love on VH1

By Mike Frey

If you like brash NFL players, you are going to want to start tuning in to VH1 on Sunday nights. Fresh off his run on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, Chad Ochocinco teams up with Terrell Owens to give the channel a tandem of wide receivers that only the reality-show genre could cover. Premiering Sunday, July 11, at 9pm ET, Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch and Season 2 of The T.O. Show find the superstar athletes taking their game off the field, with Ochocinco looking for love [Update: and, apparently, a seafood lover] from among 85 women — or ocho cinco women, for those who speak Spanish poorly — and T.O. trying to reconnect with his ex, volleyball-player-turned-model Kari Klinkenborg. Both guys are known for grabbing touchdowns and attention, and both shows look good, but in sports there’s always the need to declare a winner, so we present the following statistical breakdown to help you decide which one is right for you.

LeBron James’ “The Decision” to air on ESPN

By Ryan Berenz

espn_special_lebronI feel kind of dirty posting this, considering the absurdity of it all, but I’m sure this program will get a ton of viewers. Reports are that LeBron is favoring joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, so maybe someone from a competing network will confirm it and report it before ESPN does and we can all skip this circus. (Yeah, I know about the proceeds going to charity thing. Doesn’t make it any less silly.) Here is the release from ESPN:

“The Decision” to be Presented Live on ESPN Thursday at 9 p.m. ET

LeBron James to Make Formal Announcement as to Where He’ll Play Next

One of the most anticipated decisions in the sports world – where NBA superstar free agent LeBron James will play next season and beyond – will be officially revealed on “The Decision,” to be presented live on ESPN and ESPN Radio Thursday, July 8, at 9 p.m. ET.

Proceeds from “The Decision” will be donated to Boys & Girls Club of America in support of James’ vision to construct basketball courts for youth across the country. The program will be co-presented by University of Phoenix and Bing. vitaminwater® and McDonald’s will also sponsor the program. In addition, Nike and Sprite are making contributions in support of this charitable initiative. LeBron James and his marketing company, LRMR Marketing, were responsible for securing the sponsors for this unique event.

ESPN Films documentary looks at World Cup goal scorers

By Ryan Berenz

espn_worldcupSo, finally there’s something actually worth watching on ABC’s ESPN Sports Saturday. The ESPN Films documentary I Scored a Goal premieres on ABC Saturday, July 3 at 5pm ET, following the Paraguay vs. Spain quarterfinal match. Here are the details from ESPN:

The ESPN Films documentary I Scored a Goal will premiere Saturday, July 3, at 5 p.m. ET on ABC during the ESPN Sports Saturday programming block. The one-hour program represents one of ESPN’s most ambitious initiatives surrounding the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The documentary features interviews with most of the 34 living men who have scored a goal in the title match of the FIFA World Cup, dating back to the first tournament in 1930. Among those interviewed are Uruguay’s Alcides Ghiggia (1950), Brazil’s Pele (1958 and 1970) and Ronaldo (2002), Germany’s Gerd Müller (1974) and Rudi Völler (1986), Holland’s Dick Nanninga (1978),  and Argentina’s Mario Kempes (1978, now an analyst for ESPN Deportes and ESPN International), all of whom represent countries still competing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
